BlackBerry Vs. Treo

I work for a boutique where we are allowed to buy whichever pda or cell that we want and then expense it. In other words, there is no general issue Blackberry in the firm as in many BBs.

I do a lot (50-60%) of international travelling to mainly London and various other European countries (Norway, Holland, Germany, Denmark etc...) but I have been holding off on buying because I am torn between the Palm Treo and the Blackberry. The BB seems to be more popular in the US/Canada whereas the Treo dominates Europe.

If anyone has any insight, it would be greatly appreciated.

TireKickerYes on bberries and laptops...all analysts get one. And a really cool corporate gym bag that you'll never use!

Now, I heard something strange the other day that one of the bigger banks (forget which one) is starting to give bberries to VPs and above only. But I don't know if that goes for IB or just the other divisions, etc.

Not to doubt you TireKicker, but can anyone confirm that all BB's give Analysts laptops?

That article is kind of outdated. It was written in '04. I am looking for more recent advice (i.e Treo 750 Vs. Blackberry 8700 or Pearl).

Hey can you take the SIM card out of the blackberry they give you and use your own treo or something? And will they let you just use your own laptop if you want? I mean from management's view, letting analysts use their own laptops (which the firm would otherwise have to provide) might make sense. I'm asking because I despise windows.

Please tell me that you prefer Linux or another "more efficient" OS rather than Mac. Not to insult, but if you "despise windows", not sure how much success you're gonna have in any business.

Windows = Proffessionals

Mac = hippie artsy fartsy types

you can't use your own laptop b/c you it is not secure and the company can't monitor it.

honestly, who cares whether you use a treo or blackberry?

My bank let's us pick what we want to use within a range. We order it from a supplier and then it's approved. I think I could pick from a couple of different blackberry devices. But it really doesn't matter. I choose the regular blackberry b/c the buttons are bigger and easier to type on from home.

You can't go wrong with the 8700. It's the best BB yet.

And for aspiringmonkey:

One sign of a mature person is that he/she knows when to shut up. You obviously have not learned that lesson. One other lesson is humility, which I don't think you understand its definition.

I have had the blackberry, the treo and the ppc6700. The worst of the group is the ppc6700, it's like carrying a computer around with you but it's not a great phone. The BB is the most reliable, you will never have any issues, but I hated the feel of it and the document viewing software, not to mention the way it organizes your messages (email, txt messages, vm.). I absolutely loved the treo, it was a great phone, and great at viewing email and other documents, but it was just not stable. It would reboot at strange times and miss calls, etc. If they improved the stability of the treo I would chose that, otherwise you may be best with the BB.

All bulges give junior resources the older models think 7200s, the kids you see with the 8700 or the pearls are the ones who dished out of their own pocket.

I see that some of the boutique guys get to choose which is cool. If that's the case spring for the 8700 or pearl. Treo is great for adding applications and has better sound, but the email is buggy with the push. If your bank is cheap they may go for treo's because it doesn't require a dedicated blackberry server.
