Bodybuilding as an Interest on Resume?

Hi all,

I'm touching up my resume and for the interests line, I put bodybuilding, but I'm having second thoughts about putting this just because it could have negative connotations/stereotypes attached to it. I want to have something related to it, because it is quite honestly my biggest interest outside of finance, but I was thinking about phrasing it as "fitness and nutrition" or something like that instead. Does anyone have thoughts as to whether this is a negative, or is it not a big deal and I'm just over-thinking this?

Thanks!

Interested in other's thoughts as well. I had the same thought process as you (love it, but fear the negative connotations of mentioning it) so I think I settled for "running", lmao. Ironic because it's completely different and I suck at it, but I knew there was ZERO negative perceptions towards it.

I always put weightlifting on it.
Very few people ask about it and if they want to be smart-asses and ask about olympic lifts then tell them you are doing powerlifting, but that no one knows what it is, thus you wrote down weightlifting.

Never had a problem with it and if anything, I got positive feedback.

How jacked are you in real life? If you list bodybuilding and show up as a guy of medium-ish build ...

GRAPEFURY makes a good point, and if he thinks that way, you know there's others w/ the same thought process.
Always be safe on a resume and follow your thought on general words, like health and wellness. Plus I'm sure your in great shape, and they will probabaly ask you about it, so you can explain then. Hope this helped

I agree with the above as well. I'm into the lifting and workout thing too but even I would see that as a douchey thing on a resume. Sad cause it could be on mine too.

I love the Tough Mudder type events and think expressing that on your/my resume would accomplish both goals. Any thoughts? Or even how to say that?

I would probably avoid it and go with, maybe, weightlifting but probably fitness or fitness training, etc.

Also remember you only want to wear navy blue or dark grey Zubaz pants for any interviews.

Well it's a good thing I asked because it looks like there could be an issue with me putting bodybuilding. Therefore, I will change it to something else. Does fitness and nutrition work fine? I know a lot of you recommended "weight lifting", but I am leaning toward the other just because I feel like I'd be more likely to talk to someone about that line item if I include nutrition as well instead of just weight lifting. For weightlifting, they'd have to be into not only going to the gym, but into lifting as well (i.e. not just going to do cardio/abs), whereas with nutrition, I can see lots of people who are just generally interested in what types of food are healthy, etc.

Thanks for the help!

Bodybuilding is serious commitment and willpower, nutrition sounds like hippie who bitches at someone cause they're eating processed foods. Being interested in "fitness & nutrition" is like saying I'm interested in living.
