Career Resources
well they own like half of downtown Toronto. I'm not sure if BAM recruits straight from undergrad but I know the parent company Brookfield Properties (commercial real estate) takes on summer interns. I believe they posted for jobs at Ivey, Schulich and....university of Toronto? Check your career centre posts.
I'm really interested to know more about this, too. Will I be able to lateral into IB or PE after working at BAM for a few years...
Thanks
sorry bro, I'm still a university student so I wouldn't be able to answer that question accurately.
If I had to guess, your work experience at BAM would be enough to get into a top MBA program and from there you could break into a traditional PE fund or IB if thats what you want.
even with a contact in the company who is pretty high up, unless they need someone they won't necessarily hire anyone. also, i was told by this contact to do IB first then to call him. he did the same, worked for a BB for a few years then moved to BAM.
Any idea how to reach out to Brookfield in particular Tricap? Is the HR e-mail a black hole? Any idea which recruiters if any they use?

My question pertains more to Brookfield Financial (Brookfield's investment banking division). Anyone have any color on work experience there as an Analyst/Associate? Exit ops? Can one go to PE afterwards or is it more RE or REPE oriented?
Thanks - much appreciated

Macquarie is much better for infrastructure PE
.
anyone know anything about Chicago?

Does anyone have any insight into the culture, lifestyle/hours, etc for IB associates at Brookfield Financial in Toronto? Compared to BB or Big-5? If anyone could give me some input it would be much appreciated. Cheers.
I didn't know that Brookfield was IB... I thought they were more lilke an infrastructure PE player. Hearsay is the hours are comparable to IB in any of the other companies you mentioned
Bump - I got an interview tomorrow, anyone got details or advice on Brookfield??? Many thanks in advance
Bump - interview - need advice, thanks

Could anyone provide me with some insight on Brookfield Asset Management? I am looking into interning for their real estate group this summer and was wondering if this would be a good opportunity? Thanks!
Yes, they are huge and IMO great culture. The people I've worked with there are very smart and chill. Would be a great internship experience.
It is one of the best firms in real estate. Take the offer if you get it.
I have heard nothing but good things about Brookfield as well.
caveat, there intern pay is very low.

Messaged you.

I am looking into this REIB. Is anyone familiar with the exit opps, compensation, reputation, and hours?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
This is not a traditional broker dealer, but rather more akin to what CBRE, CW, JLL call "investment banking." I would expect more property / mortgage brokerage. With that said, BAM (parent) is a great organization, but don't expect traditional public debt/equity, M&A, etc.
Brookfield Asset Management - Classified as a RE firm? (Originally Posted: 12/18/2007)
Would they be classified as a RE private equity firm?
Anyone have any info at all about them that can't be found on the website. Thank you.
Also, pretty active in the infrastructure space. Seen them in auctions and they can be very aggressive.

What do you guys know about this firm? Do they recruit on campus? Hiring process? Comp? Thanks in advance.
are you talking about Brookfield Asset Management?
they appear to be a firm that specializes in commercial properties, I believe mostly in New York, Toronto, and other major North America cities. I believe those Financial Center buildings beside WTC are owned by them as well.
I know someone from my school ( Canadian/Toronto) who is working as an analyst for them on her co-op terms. Not sure about recruitment in the states
yeah i am talking about them. are they mostly RE? what's their reputation on the street?
