I'm a complete newbie here. I was wondering if anyone had any information about CCMP or Silver Lake Partners, both about the firm and what the interview process entails for an analyst position out of undergrad? Thanks again, and I appreciate any input and/or advice.

Didn't realize CCMP hired out of undergrad... but SilverLake is extremely technical... had a few friends at Penn (who went on to elite boutiques think EVR/GHL/LAZ) that made it to the final round...
CCMP Analyst position is a bitch research. Don't get fouled by the brand name, and don't trust the principals. There is no way in hell CCMP will promote an Analyst Researcher to an Associate in PE. Their current Associates are all ex-Lehman M&A ballers.

No exit ops. You wont get tangible experience whatsoever. There is no way CCMP will promote anyone after 2 years of being a research bitch. 4 or 5 years? Maybe.
CCMP associates are not all Lehman people. I interviewed with a guy who was from Bear Sterns PE. Interview was mostly fit. They asked me about myself, my interest in the position, and barely touched on an investment thesis.
I interviewed with 2 people. One principal and one associate. They all seemed pretty nice. Principal made it seem like you could get promoted if you performed exceptionally well.
So the Associate position is good then (if you can get it), reputation/prestige-wise?

Another route made more sense for me in AM. No knock at all on Company.

Totally understand. He didn't say you had to leave after analyst and made it seem like there was a possibility for advancement. If you're motivated and have talent not sure why they wouldn't keep you. Didn't ask about the lifestyle in the interview...never a good idea I think. This is finance. He said 65k. Not sure of bonus. Seemed like a good name to have on the resume though long-term.

Nothing wierd. No techincals. Just got asked about an investment idea. The rest was talking through resume. I think it really just comes down to fit so there's nothing to worry about. Just be yourself.
I know this is a very old thread but do you remember what you meant by "just got asked about an investment idea"? Were you asked to pitch your own investment idea or did the interviewer give you a scenario and ask you to evaluate it?

Silver Lake is going to be extremely competitive coming out of UG. A friend of mine at Cornell who was an insanely strong candidate (SA at MS, Summa / 4.1 in Engineering) got dinged from their final round a few years back... I was shocked.
Again - know this is an old thread. But has the perception regarding CCMP's analyst program changed at all? They've made a few hires from their analyst class and I know others who have left for b-school or portfolio companies.
many kids turned it down full time this year because it pays peanuts compared to banking. something in the realms of 100-100k all in, pathetic i know.

Lots of research, don't think there's a ton of modelling involved.

The analysts there get a good experience - not just research but plenty of modeling as well and seem to place well for those that don't stay on as associates. The pay though is way below street and they work as hard as any bank.
Also, be aware that they claw back 1st year bonuses if you leave before 2 years and make their analysts do rotations through investor relations.
Any idea about where their analysts have gone after they leave?
KPS and CD&R and also had a guy leave after a year for a HF.

It's mostly a walk through resume and why you're interested in this position, with technical questions coming in the first office visit most likely. My brother interviewed there previously and I was an analyst back in my banking days with one of the associates there. A few of the associates apparently do most of the initial screening and they're supposedly fair and nice. One warning he heard and backed up with his in-office interview was to watch out for one of the female associates. The key he thought was to ask her questions (she is one of those people who loves to hear herself talk). Looking at their website, there looks to be more than one female associate now, but he said she was the chubby one with dark hair.
^Hahaha. I love how it's so easy to ID people given the smaller size of PE shops.

I believe it used to be part of JPM and broke off like so many PE firms did.
They were originally JPM Partners, but split from the firm and formed CCMP Capital around the time Dimon took over. Very strong fund with a presence in NYC, Houston and London. They seem to have a very quiet recruiting process.
Chemical Ventures, Chase Capital, Manufacturers Hanover Capital/J.P. Morgan Partners
Basically, a all the internal PE arms of the firms that got smacked together through all the mergers of the 90s (excluding One Equity partners and perhaps some others).
You probably know, but one of their Portfolio Companies (AMC) is being bought. If you have an interview coming up, you may want to read up on it.
Other than that, they are a well regarded shop
I come across them quite a lot, seem well respected and certainly look at all major opportunities here.

I'd equate the prestige to something akin to getting a Rhodes scholarship while flying in a G6 to the Costume Institute Gala with a Vanderbilt-Rockefeller heiress.

Anyone have updated information on their analyst program? I'd love to hear some current thoughts. Other threads, all of which are pre-2010, have railed on how their analysts don't do "real" PE work, have no chance at an in-house promotion to associate, etc.
