Coworkers Overreacting?
WSO,
Ok I need an opinion.
Do you think your boss or your coworkers overreact sometimes? By that I mean, copying everyone from the VP to Director on an email or telling you that you f*cked up something royally even though you think it wasn't such a big deal.
Share your stories monkeys......
Did you sleep with the boss's daughter?
I think everyone is just trying their best to cover their asses.
good point also I have observed that if someone reacts, its upto you how you steer the situation. If you counter, the thing will snowball and drama will ensue. If you don't react act all, the guy whose reacting looks like a psycho.
that. was just going to type the same thing.
the game is 'cya - cover your ass' you'll get thrown under a few times before you master how to do it back... everyones human and will fuck up at some point.
When it comes to overreacting - from my experience, it's usually a woman. I hate having to be so PC that I have to actively monitor everything I say around certain people. It can be mentally draining.
Totally agree. It pisses me off when they get all hellbent on something so small. I actually prefer (sometimes) working with all guys rather than having some women. Not trying to be a dick. Its some times hard to find ppl who fix things with out making a whole scene out of it.
i know you're talking about banking but this immediately reminds me of a tall trading assistant (dunno his background prior to the floor) but whines and overreacts at some pretty.... non-live-trade-related things. always make a scene so the more senior people can see that hes trying to 'fix' someone elses 'fuck up.' well not a lot of things imo need to be screamed across 3 rows unless its a live trade and you have soros on the line or something. and well, he certainly did not. guy is great at catching mistakes, but boy the drama !
i guess by your characterization...i got a pretty 'womany' dude on my floor! i hate to be the first female commenter [and as expected] defending the gender.. but it's really more about attention that the sheer fact that the massive-CC-er is female. there are many ways to (1. cover yo ass, and 2.) show that you care, and one is gather all the attention from management you can when you are reflected positively.
now, whether a female is more likely to use the attention technique than other techniques in the work place, i will not argue for either side ...
"By that I mean, copying everyone from the VP to Director" ok, the person in question would be neither a VP nor Director (presumably not an MD). so, some frustrated little associate has his panties in a bunch?
what did you fuck up today? before i provide a shoulder to cry on i need to hear the humiliating details.
Whenever someone does that, I do a mental note : "keep bitching, I will be your boss one day."
Ignore. Delete. Repeat.
While women do tend to over-react in IB, it's because they are always being thrown under by the guys. There is a guy here who is known to be a massive douchenozzle whom I had a little interaction with and the emails to me and the admin kept flowing and flowing bitching and whining about some development code he asked her to open and she didnt and bla bla bla. After I've let him email me 4 times with no response from me; the 5th he CCed my D, of which I then cced the D, the MD, and the sector head telling him to basically channel his energy into making money and to leave the minor things for the admin to worry about.
This, or they are PMSing. Or, it's because za women be dumb.
I feel like these dust-ups die down in about a day, and nobody remembers after that. Could be different for you, given we don't know what happened.
When it happens, you can't let it affect you. If they freak out, just let them--everybody needs to learn to let these things slide off their shoulders.
Personally most of the overreacting that I've encountered comes from a woman who I have upset, or who thinks I'm hiding something. But I couldn't see why someone would email everyone about your fuck up...unless they could have possibly been hurt by the mistake too; no matter how small.
