Does this piss you off too?
Something that really gets me pissed if helping someone on resume, interview prep, networking who says all this junk on how they want job xyz in industry zyx. Then takes a job in another industry and says it is what they wanted all along and they cant pass it up. I dont get it.
Ya man, I have helped out some kids that went to my undergrad and had them basically shaft me. So frustrating!
that's life, people are ultimately looking out for their own self-interests. I'm guessing you helped these dudes get an offer and then they take another offer somewhere else or maybe you helped out some undergrad and then end up doing something completely opposite from what you thought they intended to do. they weren't being upfront about it.
Just note the name, date, and reason in a little black book and do what you will.

I completely understand, but playing devils advocate, whenever you interview with an IBank you can't say "Yeah, you guys are up there on my choices for banks..." or "Yeah, it's down to banking or consulting," to your interviewer. If you want the job, you have to convey that (or seems) that the bank and being a banker is your one and only.
I might be personally guilty of this. A few bankers helped me out on resume and interview prep but I took a SA position in Investment management. Didn't know this would piss people off.... I intend to recruit for IBD full time though...
Unfortunately, this happens all the time simply because students can't say, "I would really like to interview at this firm because it would be an ideal backup." They should at least take the time to apologize and show gratefulness for your time and help.

Monty, this is actually the reason why I haven't contacted yourself, as you were gracious enough to provide me with some of your information a few months ago.
To be honest, I feel as some individuals don't quite know what they are going to do and are really applying to anywhere they can. That is at least the situation I am in.
