Emerging markets specialisation - which one?

Hello all,

I'd like people's opinions on the following subject:

If you could choose a particular country from the emerging markets to focus on and sort of specialise, which one would you choose and why?

I'm at a point where I have the opportunity to choose a particular country (or countries) to focus on but I have no strong preferences so I'd like to see how others think about it.

Regards.

What choices do you have? Latam region? Middle East? CEE? Africa? I doubt you have any choice you want across the globe ... or do you?

Assume I have a free choice for the time being (don't know what geo restrictions may be put on this).

As for choosing a country I understand, well I don't have any preference because I wouldn't say I understand one particular country to the degree that would influence my decision. I'm trying to see what other people think and how they choose something. I'm open to learn about new things/countries so it's an opportunity to do so as well.

One you understand. If you know nothing about the culture, local economy, main political issues, how their economy is based you can't make meaningful decisions about that country.

e.g. Brazil: Do you know the % of unemployment (how cheap the unskilled labour market is), education rates (access to skilled labour), natural resources, state ownership, corruption, foreign owned companies etc.

Currency too, to a lesser extent.

Not always rosy though, ask Myron Scholes what he thinks of Russia.

I would take CEE, if not, Latam (Brazil). I am very biased though.

Somewhere sunny. I am not kidding with that, Mongolia may have an exploding resource sector and an illiquid stock market bursting at the seams, but specialise there and you will spend he next 20 years of your life flying backwards and forwards to ulaan-batur to spend hours in horrible hotels visiting coking coal mines in the middle of nowhere.
