Final HP Tablet Sale

So looks like HP is making one last bang in the tablet market by slashing their tablets by 75%. The 16 GB is only $99.9 and the 32GB is $150. The funny thing is that tech geeks are going crazy over this as this will most likely be cheaper than any deal come Christmas time, yet at the same time HP has been recalling the tablets from major retailers. On another note, for those wondering what can come out of buying a discontinued OS, community developers are now taking the opportunity to exploit the tablet and implement honeycomb OS to make it another android tablet. Looks promising, and in an unexpected way might make this tablet more popular than it has ever been before.

Wow. The day after HP announces they’re discontinuing all their webOS devices, and they’ve already issued a liquidation order. Best Buy, Future Shop, The Source, London Drugs, and Staples will be selling the 16GB TouchPad for $100, and the 32GB version for $150 starting tomorrow. Well, in Canada at least.

No word on when this will spread to the US, UK, EU, and so on — but somehow I doubt many TouchPads will be selling for full price while this fire sale is going on, so the switch will probably happen right away. Also unclear is the 64GB version’s fate.

Buy one recently? Get thee to the refundery. Got a few bucks? Try picking one up. That’s a hell of a price for a decent device — even if it won’t be getting any support, people will be hacking the hell out of it soon. One commenter says they already have Honeycomb up and running.

Your best bet is to call your local gadget shop and check for stock and pricing, then run like a bat out of hell to get yours before they’re gone.

Dude, that sucks. I've called every WalMart in New Orleans and they're all sold out (or at least they're lying about being sold out so you won't ask them to hold one for you).

I just got off the phone with Amazon customer service (where they're still listed for around $400) and they've been advised by HP that there will be no price matching on this item. In other words, no buying it today for $400 and then getting a $300 refund tomorrow or the next day when the $99 goes live.

What a clusterfuck. HP mismanaged the shit out of this deal.

Banker88:
Uh I don't get it...so where can you actually buy this for $100? And will it be able to run on Android OS?

That is what they're hoping to accomplish in the next few weeks. By turning it into another android tablet, it in fact won't become obsolete at all. Just a cheap tablet.

Just negotiated a brand-new 32gb for $110 off craigslist.

LOL. Hope you don't get chopped up when you go to pick it up.

As long as you use common sense then craigslist is pretty fucking safe.

Does anyone know of any place that still has some? I've looked around and they seem to be gone...which is expected...but I'm running Android on a Nook Color and wouldn't mind stepping it up to a TouchPad if I could get one for a decent price.

I found the link in the Engadget comments about the sale. The parent company owns a bunch of confirmed legitimate online stores, so I'm not too worried.

Sweet, I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the tip.

Looks like those are sold out now too, guys.

Guess you have to act fast.

I'm just hoping I didn't pay $150 for a piece of shit. We shall see.

I bought 2 of the 16GB models so maybe we can be disappointed together, lol.

I ordered a 32gb one for $130 Friday from HP site, hoping this doesn't get cancelled like thousands of other orders. I don't even know what to do with it, but I figure at $130, it can make a great digital photo frame.
