Freshman in College - Resume Review
Hey guys, just made my resume kind of recently, and sorry I don't really have much actually on the resume itself, but I'm only a freshman and haven't really had a job before (besides the one listed that I got from the university).
Obviously I know it's not good, and obviously I'm not applying for a BB summer analyst position this summer, it's unrealistic. I'd just really like some feedback on my resume, be as harsh as you need to be, as long as it's constructive and you give advice on how to fix it.
I'm really hoping to land an internship at a small boutique IB or any freshman position that is available over the summer, like PWM or Asset Management or something of the sort, that's my main goal.
Gonna leave one last reminder that I'm a freshman, hence the lack of financial work experience.
Thanks guys, looking forward to comments.
I think the formatting is good, I can spot some areas for adjustment but really there's no point in breaking your back over your freshman resume. The only thing I'd change for now is to put your IB Club first under your education, and see if you can expand on what you do in that club for another bullet point or two.
I would recommend to take off advanced typing and video games.
Hi, thanks for the feedback.
Stryfe - Thank you. I'd love to hear what other adjustments you'd make to make this resume as best as possible with the lack of experience I have. I'd just like to question putting the IB club under education, because it's not really part of my education, I've never seen anyone put anything other than schooling there.
Considering I'm only a participating member, there's not much I can put on other than that, but I'll definitely be looking for more to add under that club. If I can, I most definitely will.
I want to make this as best as possible, as there are some great freshman programs, at BoAML and JPM that I plan on applying to. Would love to get in.
Tengleha - Thanks for the feedback. I would just like some other perspective on that as well, but if multiple people tell me I should do it, then I'll do that.
Also, I was hoping the advanced typing was something that some employers would really be interested in. Just to put it into perspective, an advanced professional typist types at 120 WPM on average. Maybe I could rephrase it instead? Let me know what you think, I'd love to hear it.
A successful student in my school right now told me anything on interests would be good, especially things you could talk about extensively, and if by any chance your interviewer shares an interest, the interview will be that much easier. His example was DJing, he got an internship at a top 4 accounting firm because he was able to relate with his interviewer on DJing.
Thanks both of you for your comments, looking to hear more.
Instead of "Leadership", put "Extracurricular Activities" and include more clubs, then remove the "Clubs" section. I get that the IB club is most relevant but you need to have more than one thing for each header. I'd also remove the High School education... it's not really relevant. Also, what is a prospective GPA and if you haven't obtained it yet, how can you say you're on the Dean's List...? And I agree with the above poster, I'd remove Video Games (it sounds a bit childish) and put something else instead if you can. Also, say "Successfully monitor" (present tense). Also, the Advanced Typist thing is a bit weird but you can leave it if you really want to. If you do, just put (140 WPM) after it -- be more concise. Lastly, it's always dicey to put "proficient" in Excel... you can can get grilled pretty hard in interviews sometimes if they see that. So make sure you are if you're going to put that.
Hope that helps.
