Hello WSO!

Hello everyone,

I just recently joined WSO and although I'm familiar with some aspects of finance; I lack the cognitive ability to articulate about key facts and figures compared to some of my friends who are taking finance and business classes already. I'm very sure some responses will refer me to the previous forums topics but to be honest I rather receive these comments upfront. I'm a chemical engineering major and my father is already well versed in the oil industry especially downstream and I want to be his trump card to raise his company to even higher ground. I'm about to enter my second year however; I don't wait until I start my business or finance courses in order to know "about the loop", I want to be able to talk about models and draw forth the skills to decipher them at will, accumulate knowledge on all branches of the industry (PE, IB, HF e.t.c), discuss changes in the market and how these fortune 500 companies benefit or loose from the fluctuations. I'm very receptive and determined to learn in order to attain a broad and solid foundation about finance and all its intricacies. Any advice in order to have the best and I mean the very best start so that when I discuss important issues pertaining our growing economy, I don't look so poker-faced all the time. thanks

Welcome aboard my friend. The best advice I could give you in terms of WSO is to use the forums link and just click around and read anything that is remotely interesting to you.

Use Google and Wikipedia for any terms you don't understand. Use investopedia to get more comfortable with finance terms.

If you have specific questions, feel free to ask!

Honestly, just read every single thing on this site. I lurked for about a month, registered a few weeks later, and in tandem with how quickly OCR picked up when I was recruiting, I started scanning this forum hard. The amount of information you can absorb is shocking, absolutely tremendous. Anything you can't find from the search bar you can ask directly, and just reading every single thread will get you in tremendous shape absurdly fast.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.
