How to leverage PT-MBA at Booth into Sales & Trading?
This is not a question of if, but how.
With 4 years Regulation/Risk background, 2 years Big 4 Advisory (so basically zero experience, relative). Basically I have a pretty sweet gig and I'm about to attend Chicago Booth part-time but would like to eventually move into S&T
I'm looking for some/any advice on how I could best leverage the PT MBA into a internship (summer or otherwise)? Not necessarily BB (is this a long shot?), but what firms should/could I be targeting in Chicago or NY?
im going to guess it is a long shot since most of the kids you will be competing for S&T roles are columbia chicago wharton etc full timers -- is your current firm paying for the part time MBA? how are you gonna pull off the internship with them paying for your MBA -- were you gonna try to grad from the part time program and then move into an internship? isnt your firm going to want you to stay with them after they pay for your school?
full time = reset button/career change, part time = advance in own firm
I'm currently working on a quant equity trading desk at a hedge fund and am seriously thinking about applying to booth part-time. My goal is to transition into investment management, but i'm also open to BB S&T. The part-timers do NOT have access to summer internship recruiting, but they do get access to full-time on-campus recruiting after they've taken 12 classes. They can apply for all the same jobs as full-timers, but they have to be invited based on the strength of their resumes while the full-timers can get interviews if they bid enough points on it. Hence, since you don't have previous experience, you might have a tough time getting S&T interviews through on-campus recruiting.
To clarify, I know that PT'ers at Booth only get access to OCR for jobs after a certain number of credits and zero access to the traditional internship recruiting. I am aware that OCR success would depend on the strength of past experience, i.e. you need an internship. I guess the question is still - How? Is it at all possible?
I am paying for my own MBA and am fully aware I would need to quit to take on an internship (would have 3/4 completed by the traditional summer time frame for internships). Afterwards, I could finish up my MBA taking a larger class load or transition into a FT gig.
