Infosys InStep Internship: any thoughts?
Hello guys,
I'm Currently holding an offer for the InStep internship programme.
Anyone with info on how this will be looked upon when applying for IB or Consulting internships next year? I do not have any other summer offers atm, but am waiting on a few other apps/ will be sending out some applications very soon. Some possible alternatives (if I get offers, which is unlikely) are:
unknown London/China boutique IBD internship
possibly a back/middle office internship at a London BB
business dev at a start-up (e.g. rocket internet)
How will the InStep internship compare to these?
Background: Undergrad at a UK target, will be applying for internships next year (looking at both Consulting and IB, pushing more towards IB atm). Will be intern with BB IB this spring, and have done a summer internship at an IB (back office) pre-uni. Expect to graduate 2015/16.
I do not have any consulting-related experience. The project I am told will involve improving HR structure for a client/ internally. As I understand Infosys is mainly an IT consulting firm, and I am mainly looking into IB/ MBB-manageent consulting for next year, so there is a chance that this may seem unrelated. Also, I am thinking about trying my luck with some B-school apps (e.g. like 2+2) at some point. Any thoughts on how this will go down, and (in general) what kind of stuff to get involved with for the apps?

i actually got the InStep offer a few years ago. They are one of the largest IT consulting firm in India and most Indians I talked to think it's a great firm to work for. It's also a great opportunity to visit India. However, as you probably already know they only pay for living expense and flight. There is no actual salary so this is a big down side for me and I ultimately ended up with a better paying internship in the US.
Btw I know they let you delay your offer acceptance til pretty late so could keep it as a backup.
Do it! Had a fantastic experience and eventually leveraged that experience for a top BB IBD. Have a friend who did this internship and is got into HBS' 2+2 program as well.

I know they are a very large firm, and have good rep in India. My main concerns are:
i) The internship may come across as being IT focussed, which may not go down well with management/ strategy consulting apps? Also, in terms of brand name (given I am only a first year student, so it is still early stages), would this give me an advantages come consultancy internship application time? ii) Totally unsure how the IB firms will consider this. But I will have some directly relevant IB experience in other parts of my profile.
Any other thoughts guys? How would it be looked upon for consulting/ IB, and how would it compare to let's say a start-up internship?
I'm considering going for this internship as well! Any thoughts?

Hi does anyone know any reputation on Infosys's management consulting group? It seems pretty new and I read an article today that they're hiring over 2100 new graduate students this year to boost their US consulting practice. I got an offer out of undergrad right now that I am mulling over but also a TC one from Accenture.
Any thoughts or ideas?
Not sure about their US brand, as you mentioned theyre still new. For the most part, in my encounters with them, they've been looked at more as an outsourcing center for testing purposes. But again, I have only encountered them twice in my 2+ years, so this is by no means a exhaustive depiction of them.
Hi there, I work for them in Europe. The brand here is either not recognized, or associated with outsourcing, as you mentioned. This is a good company though (pay, perks, people), and I can see many people from Accenture coming to Infosys.
They are known as IT company in the market so having management consulting division, they would need to work really hard on branding and letting companies know that they can offer some legit MC services. I would rate them below Accenture in terms of MC offering - from market's perspective.

I interviewed with InfoSys last week. I'm not an IT guy, far from it, but I am interested in consulting. I applied because they emailed me asking me to and so that I could get some more interviewing practice. Because of the interview, my interest in them is piqued, but I don't know much about them beyond what it is they do.
What I'm curious about is how the company is perceived, it's reputation. I know it's not MBB, but where does it rank versus shops like Accenture or Big4 consulting firms? Does the name play well on MBA applications? Any general comments or tidbits of advice or insights you'd like to share?
It has been 6 months from your post, so you had probably figured this out already.
Anyway, brand reputation is tier 3/4, below Accenture and Deloitte. Generally, Indian companies does not have the elite factor associated with their brands. But, as a company, it is good to work for in terms of pay and people you work with. It's management consulting branch does mostly IT consulting, as this is what Infosys or Infosys Lodestone (as they are known in Europe) are known for.
