Insurance Company Asset Management Interview
I am interviewing for an internship with the investment management arm of a large insurance company. From my understanding, the program basically places you within a segment of the larger department for the summer, being private placements, alternative investments, fixed income, etc.
What would be the best way to prepare for an interview for this program? I am not sure it is going to necessarily be as technical as an IBD or S&T role and I am not quite as concerned with the behavioral questions, just have no idea what to expect for technicals.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to be
If you are going to be working for a P&C insurance company, then I'd say review fixed income investments and options. Reinsurers are the same. I work for an insurer as well (though no in their asset management dept.) I can guarantee you that a majority of a P&C company's investments are going to be fixed income, most of it in high grade gov or corporate.
Some may also have exposure to mortgage and asset backed securities.
Wouldn't hurt to know about regulatory capital (see NAIC) / required capital (i.e., the amount of capital insurance companies need to hold to be solvent and to remain highly rated by raters such as AM Best, etc.).
Credit default would be important as well. Should know about the relationship between ratings and yield. Relationship between spot yield curve and the yield on investments, etc.
Hope this helps.
Best of luck to you.
