I'm a bit confused. Why is this guy running under the US colors but then runs around with a mexican flag when the race is over?

Isn't doing something like this get you kicked out of the team?

The guy was born in Mexico but grow up in the states.

In this day in age many people are multi-cultural and can identify with multiple nationalities. Personally my father is from Spain while my mother is American. I was not born in the US and moved here when I was ~8 years old. I identify equally with both nations and when people ask me what I am I say Spanish and American. Yes he was running and representing the US but he also most likely wanted his Mexican family to be proud and show them that he hasn't forgotten about them, still identifies, etc. (most likely a good % of his family still lives in Mexico). Don't see anything wrong with that...

It would be a bit stranger if the guy was like a 3rd or 4th generation American whose great grandparents were from Poland or Ireland or wherever since by that point you don't really have any ties to your family's origin. I always find it annoying when people are like oh I'm half German, a quarter Italian, and a quarter French (or whatever) but they've never been to those places, don't speak the language(s), don't know anything about the culture, etc.

In this case though the guy is truly multi-cultural and identifies with both nations. He made the US proud and at the same time in a gesture of recognition was thanking his Mexican family.
