LOL Finance People

I mass cold-emailed a bunch of firms yesterday, of course expecting very little this late into the recruitment cycle. Most of them replied "Sorry but the recruitment cycle is over". Quite a few have actually ended the email on "Sorry and pardon me, but how did you get my contact?"

I am so tempted to reply saying "using the internet." Anyways, at this point, is it wise to ask if they take ad-hoc interns? Or just best to not reply?

If I were you sir. I would tell them I took the inititative to research their company on google as I was hungry for a job. And to raise the bar I would also ask for a coffee or tea:)

If I were you I would review the tone of the email and see why they are asking you how you got their email. If they are confused as to how you contacted them and why you it usually means the format of the email is off for networking purposes.

Also agree you're off cycle now so it's going to be harder, if anything this shows people will respond, just need to fix the email.

When someone is looking for an internship hat in hand why wouldn't I take him or her? But the way you are going about it is wrong. Normal rotations are pretty much filled.. where are you looking?

To be fair, I did email BB banks, and they all have structured internship programs. So I understand why they would say that.

@StryfeDSP: See, their emails weren't on the website. I just figured out by emailing firstname.lastname@____.com, including variations on their email address. The websites didn't list the members, so I sort of hunted them down on LinkedIn and then used trial and error to send an email.

@justin88 and DBCooper: Of course I would personalize each, when I said mass cold-emailed, I didn't mean I just sent out the same email to all of them. I just sent a lot at once, to multiple people.

Make something up. It's easier to for ER people. For example: "I was reading your report on company X and agree with your consensus, but have a few questions I'd like to ask you."

To quote OP, "Mass cold-emailed"... He's spamming and wondering why it's ineffective. Maybe he grew up in Nigeria?

LOL

You can make $10MM in a week no joke completely legit

If your getting responses like that, you are absolutely terrible at networking/connecting. Work on it. Never send mass emails. You can send a lot out but take a little bit of time to personalize each one.

Please don't quote Patrick Bateman.

Just say in the future that you found them through LinkedIn - no one asks as long as you include that. I think most ppl get it's easy to figure out their email address.
