Moving from Asset Management to Sales and Trading
I know this has briefly been touched on before in the forum but not as specifically as this.
I would like to know whether if I was to take on a graduate AM position in the FO would it put me in a decent position (if I so desired) to perhaps move into S&T, particularly Sales, within a BB? or are they too far apart in terms of what each job requires
when I say move into, I dont mean straight away, I mean after working in AM for several years and built up some experience
no insight anyone?
Why would you want to do that?
well Sales (or trading) is what I've always wanted to do since I was young
but an apportunity at AM was be presenting itself when I graduate
as far as I was aware, the pay is better in S&T at a BB, no?
You want to swap my S&T position for your AM position?
Have there been any conclusions on this?
You can move into tons of sales and relationship and market hybrid roles for sure
i am sure sales is a though job!
Why would you want to go from AM to S&T? Trading is a dying industry with almost no transferable skills and exit opps.
Moving from BB Asset Management to BB Sales & Trading (Originally Posted: 05/23/2015)
Hey everyone,
I am about to start a 12 month industrial placement internship at a BB for Asset Management (equities division). However, my final goal is to move into Sales and Trading at a BB. However, i have been unsuccessful in securing an internship for sales and trading.
I was wondering if it was possible to move from asset management to sales and trading either by:
1) Moving after a few years of experience? 2) Internal transfer (across divisions but both are still front office)? 3) Trying to gain an internship after my year in asset management?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
Must be UBS. Know someone who switched from AM to IBD under same program.
hey thanks for the reply, do you know how he did it? i.e. did he switch during the placement or after? thanks
