my professor

I'm doing research with an econ professor (he's about 27 years old) and I asked him today whether he ever considered i-banking or quant-fin or hedge funds. He kinda casually told me that a lot of his friends that work at the big names have asked him to come out and work for [insert top-tier HF/IB], but he would never make money doing something as boring as HF/IB. I died a little inside after hearing that.

My dad is like that. He could be making twice as much as he does now, but he chooses to teach because he loves it.

You need to get out more if this is the first time you've met someone who finds academia interesting but doesn't find roadshows and prospectuses interesting.

most finance profs can make lots of money. my investment prof (phd from ivy in finance) told me many of his friends were making 500k after 2 years and up from there. he's in his 30s now. real cool real smart guy, he just loves teaching and doing his own research. he gets to research whatever he wants in finnance and still get paid about 150k a yr to teach 2 classes. pretty sweet gig to me. many of my profs do consulting on the side, one drives a ferreri. i love those things.
