streetluck:
2 final rounds this week, haven't heard either way yet, so not looking good so far. 2 more coming up next month..

This is probably the most stressed I have felt in my life to date. I am compulsively checking my email, making sure my phone ringer is turned up all the way.

Just an update.. was fortunate enough to receive offers from both firms. Took them a while, but got both offers on the same day (around 4-5 days later). Both of these banks (BBs) actually took quite a few nontargets from my superdays.

Those of you who are waiting to hear back, there's still hope!

Nice work getting final rounds. On-campus recruiting?

Good luck with the rest. Don't work yourself up over it, then your just gonna botch your interviews cause you feel the pressure. Sit back, relax, and have a cold one.

Didn't get shit. Came from a non-target unranked state school. Had 3.7 GPA and two Finance internships with Fortune 50's as well as House of Reps.

Your best bet is to network your ass off

came from psu and got an offer with a NYC MM bank. psu is strong overall but certainly a non-target for investment banking. not including kids with internships and family/friend connections, probably only about 4-6 kids got to nyc. maybe less. the reason i am not including kids with internships and connections is because i am just not sure. just speaking on how many banks came to campus and how many got offers.

anyhow, its fuckin tough to get an offer from an non-target. not to toot my own horn of course. i had a strong resume, but just had a great day on my interview and got lucky. luck is key

MetalJack:
Joe Pa needs to go, though.

JoePa has spoiled Pennsylvanians so much with his consistent success over 41 years that as soon as he has a couple of losing seasons, they think they can do better. Wait, Penn State went 11-1 and won the Big Ten season before last. What the hell are you complaining about?

Paterno created Penn State from one of his ribs. Your comment smacks of sacrilege.

SUCCESS!!!

Accepted an offer from a BB today, so for all those non targets still looking, keep working hard. I am from an extremely non target school and made it happen by cold calling the banks and being lucking enough to find some people who would talk with me. Sure I got shot down a few times, but I got a couple of interviews and made the most out of it. Good luck to everyone else out there.

Best Response

Yes, cold calling actually worked and got me alot of respect during the superdays. I actually had a couple of MD's tell me that they were really impressed that I had sought them out and had to guts to give them a call to get what I wanted. I was the only one at superdays who wasn't targeted by the BB companies. Toward the end of last semester I made a list of banks and found general phone numbers for all of them. When someone answered I would ask if I could speak with someone about working for them as a summer analyst for this upcoming summer. Some banks patched me through and some didn't. Signing up online and waiting for a response is USELESS. You have to be proactive on your search. From there I was generally asked to send them my resume via email. I sent my resume out and then contacted them again a 2-3 weeks later if they hadn't contacted me.

My GPA wasn't steller, only a 3.64, but I did play college golf for a couple of years. Not sure if that helped or not. In general, when I called I just exoressed how enthusiastic I was about the opportunity and made sure I knew why I wanted to go into banking.

Good luck to everybody out there and let me know if I can help. I know how hard it is and I appreciated all the people who gave me advice and helped me get a SA position.

Yeah great job man. I've only had 1 interview with a boutique so far. I'm from a nontarget but there seems to be a lot of people at my school who interned/work for a BB, but they mostly come from SEO or things like that. Not even 1 ibank comes to recruit here. Good luck guys
