Obama will win 2012, Gen. Patreaus for Pres. 2016.
Romney is not going to defeat Obama, I think his second term is guaranteed. What we need is an Ike like figure. General David Patreaus for President in 2016 on the Republican Ticket. He will surely win, he just needs to run.
I can't vote in 2012 anyway, so I am looking forward to 2016.
I'm all for "anyone but Obama", but what makes you think a military leader from some of the most unpopular conflicts in history would be a surefire win for POTUS?
Patreaus is universally respected for his service to multiple administrations and has unquestioned loyalty to the country. Get a running mate with some experience in DC, and he'd be competitive. Christie would be the natural competitor for the job but I don't know if the two could be on the same ticket, and it's also possible that Patraeus would run on the Democratic ticket. He's a pure patriot, and has no use for partisan bickering.
He will surely win? What? Why?
Americans will vote for a guy who have proved time and again that he is super competent at every job that he took up.
He won't run let alone win dude.
Stupid
Dude, I can't think past the nightmare of 4 more years of Clownbama. Romney has a good chance of winning so lets focus on that for right now.
I think that between Bush and Obama, a less partisan president is in order. I'm not sure when party affiliations became more important than doing a good job, but by 2016 the playing field should be wide open for someone who can actually do a good job without needing some pathetic ideological/philosophical crutch. It's time to vote for what's best for the country.
i'll take any bet at even odds that obama beats any GOP candidate.
Obama has a 54.5% chance according to Intrade.
I think his chances depend on the economy and what happens in Europe -- which will affect the economy. If unemployment steadily decreases, then Obama is almost guaranteed a victory. You have to remember though, that's about electoral votes, not popular vote. I think Romney plays well in almost all the swing states.
The people that voted Obama into the office (college students and African Americans) are not going to vote this year (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/25/obama-young-black-professional…) Obamas only chance is to get the hispanic vote , but many are upset that he is deporting illegals at record numbers (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/12/obamas-record-high-deporta…) If Romney was smart he would get a hispanic vice and say that he is for the DREAM act even if he isn't. Few people know that Romney's dad was born in Mexico and if he plays it right he will take the hispanic vote and win the election.
Last general to run for a nomination was Gen. Wesley Clark and it was a fiasco. I don't see this going any differently and thats going beyond the fact that I would be shocked to hear that Petreaus was even interested.
For what it's worth...any General above a 1-star is a political creature.
If you like a straight shooter, check out Allen West out of Florida...the guy has all the makings of a Republican president...and he's black...not that there's anything wrong with that, lol.

Good point on the political hierarchy of Generals.
As for Allen West: wrong on all accounts.
What part of no more neoconservatives don't you understand?
Isn't being a neocon a requirement to be a Republican presidential candidate...at least at this point?

Haha. Speak of the devil...

dumb thread is dumb. what a fucking astute political analysis.
Allan West got discharged for the most legit, badass thing ever. I'd vote for him solely based on the fact that he don't give a fuck just like a honey badger.
No more neoconservatives and especially not West, Ryan, Rubio, Christie, or whoever else the neocons are cultivating for the next election.
The neoconservative policy directors have no respect for our military personnel.
