Operations SA Networking

I am a non-target sophomore doing an SA in BB Ops. My goal is to get an IBD SA in my Junior year. The reason I sophomore ops is the ability to network with the FO guys.

The problem is that my office doesnt have FO. Just Ops. What is the best way for me to network? I have access to the global directory so I should be able to email or call these guys in other offices, but I can't really meet up with them because they're in different countries.

I could just email them and see what happens, should I use my company email? I was worried that, if I did, my boss might see and get pissed, especially if I did it early on. Im guessing its important to get a good refrence from him, too.

Also, would it be acceptable to use the company email to apply for Fall internships at boutiques? Just thought I might stand out with a BB email...

Fuck your boss and what he/she thinks. That reference won't mean shit either, except for maybe to other people in ops.

It's a sophomore year SA. You do what you have to do to get ahead and have a shot at a better SA junior year. If you fuck up big deal, it's still only sophomore year and you already have that brand name bank on your resume for junior summer recruiting. Very little to lose here so go all out.

Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.

Agree with Flake. I would say your best bet would be to network through email. If you are close enough so that you can get to the HQ, begin networking throughout your internship and set up as many informational interviews as you can either after you get out of work, or in the time between when your internship ends (generally early august) and the time until you go back to school. If you are in the NY/NJ area, then keep your apt for a week after the internship ends and meet as many FO people as you can. Also, your boss won't be able to see your email unless he walks by and sees you doing it. But like Flake said...honestly it doesn't matter, since you aren't really looking for a return offer anyway. Additionally, around half way through your internship, if you get along with your bosses very well, you could just be truthful with them and get their opinion as to the best way to move into FO next summer. Either way it's a great brand to have on your resume going into junior year recruiting.
