PB NYC at BB or S&T Bumblefuck, USA in MM
Okay, really fucking confused. I did not get into the SA program for S&T at the BB I interviewed with but was offered a position in its Prime Brokerage division (think GS, MS, JPM). I also ended up receiving an offer for SA S&T (think William Blair, Baird) in Bumblefuck, USA.
I was born in raised in NYC and my end goal is to stay in NYC doing S&T or IBD. I already have interviews lined up for full time in August for IBD and S&T in NYC so I was wondering what would be attractive to an employer, doing PB at a BB in NYC or doing S&T at an MM in Bumblefuck, USA.
I already lined an interview up with the BB for FT S&T that I will be doing PB at but I am not sure if it will be easy to leverage into a FT offer so it will definitely be a risk as I could just go to the MM and have an easier shot getting the return offer there.
This is confusing for me to figure out and might be even more confusing for you to read so apologies on that note. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
For your personal development, I hope you take the S&T offer. I live in and absolutely love NYC now but spent the formative years of my life elsewhere. There is a lot more to life than a NYC state of mind and I think the diversity will do you good in the long-term. Leaving New York will help you gain a lot of perspective about life and yourself. As great as NYC is, the mindset everyone here gravitates towards is unhealthy. Go elsewhere - see the world (even if it is bumblef-).
Furthermore, the S&T offer will provide you with a more transferable skillset for your future BB S&T interviews.
I left NYC. Now trying desperately to get back, it sucks out here.
thanks for the response guys. forgot to mention that i go to school out here as well and a shitload of alumni work on the street. if i intern at bumblefuck, usa, it will definitely be hard to network with them to land additional interviews (my school has 0 fucking ocr). is this something i should consider as well to convince me to stay in nyc even though ill be taking the pb job? or should i just get the S&T on my resume and worry about networking once i get back to nyc after the internship?
@ Vancouver canucks, from vancouver? fuck nyc then lol vancouver is the only place i would move to on earth. beautiful women, weather, and definitely chill compared to NYC. but i really cant see myself leaving nyc for a lower tier city, as pompous as that may sound. i lived in sf for a bit and almost blew my brains out.
@bullmkt, sorry to hear man. what did you leave nyc for?
Private bank is radically different at JP Morgan vs those other two firms, which are brokerage. What would you be doing there? There's a big difference between them.
What town are we talking about for S&T? NY blows, it might be worth a change of pace, as long as it's not Mississippi or something. Also, what would you be doing in S&T? You're not giving us the most relevant pieces of information.
my bad on that, i meant pb as in prime brokerage, not private banking. bad with acronyms.
prime brokerage- generalist i am guessing.
equities s&t rotational in midwest (think columbus, milwaukee)
I vote S&T all the way. Not even close. Whether you're in NYC or nowheresville, S&T experience is what counts for full time recruiting.
I checked online and the prime brokerage service falls under sales and trading at the bb. Would this hold any weight as i can technically say that i worked in s&t over the summer at the bb or do you think it be stretching it? What are your thoughts?
I don't know the specifics of the company you are heading to, so I think you should find out exactly what you would be doing in the PB division as a 'generalist'. But it's my understanding that you do not learn about trading in a PB division. If you want to become a trader, analyzing trading strategies and managing your own book, then you can't beat S&T experience.
When you mentioned equities in S&T, does it also cover equity derivatives?
OP not looking forward to Milwaukee. Then again, who would?
