both are nice.

i prefer the sub because i am a diver and i like the black face, rotating bezel (which is very useful for mundane things such as determining the time left at a parking meter, etc) and the fact that it has the date.

that's what i want in a watch. keeps good time. has rotating bezel to keep track of time, and displays the date. if it displayed the day it would be perfect, alas, neither of these watches have that function.

i think the gmt is a handsome watch but since i'm not interested in telling time in two time zones i'm not interested.

fwiw i'm wearing the seiko black monster its got everything i want in a watch and cost me $200. :) http://edscorner1.blogspot.com/2006/03/seiko-monster-review-skx779.html

The GMT Master II also has a black face and rotating bezel, although unlike the diver's Submariner, the bezel rotates both ways.

Thanks for your reply. I am also looking at the DateJust so if anyone has other comments on these watches, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

i used to wear a datejust, bought to me by an ex as a present. i ditched it when we split up. i wore a white gold "thunderbird" datejust which has a rotating bezel.

i prefer a larger, and sportier watch than the datejust but those are classic watches and you have almost unlimited options to customize the material, dial color, oyster vs. jubilee band, roman vs. arabic numerals, etc etc

i have always wanted a datejust in stainless with a black dial, regular non-roman numerals, and the oyster dial. very simple and pretty cool looking watch.

Probably SS in black for GMT, Sub, and DateJust but I am kinda leaning towards GMT or Sub. I like the steel and gold combo but that would be too much money. It would be my every day watch and hopefully my office watch in the future :). I would think that the black would be better than white for both occasions, right?

dipset1011dude a kid at your age sporting a rolex?????? your a tool.
I don't think that was a necessary comment. I feel like I was just compared to London!

mountain man, glad to see that were establishing a dialogue between you and I. I can give a rats ass regarding my grammar and spelling on a public forum. I'm glad you've noticed though. Thanks for caring. By the way retard is a bit harsh get some class you tool.

Dipset, you're missing apostrophes: it should be "we're establishing" and "rat's ass" :)

I don't get why people are saying he is too young for a rolex though - the submariner and GMT aren't even fancy models. I knew guys who wore much more expensive watches in high school, and no one noticed or cared. If the OP likes the watch, he should get it.

Why a Rolex? Because you've heard the name? Because you want other people to know you spent a lot on your watch? The world of nice watches extends far beyond Rolex, Omega, or Breitling. Try branching out to something a bit more unique.

Also, if you're wearing a Rolex in your early 20s most people are going to assume it's fake, or that you're "that guy". Don't be that guy.

Rolex has a good reputation for a reason, because they are good watches. I agree that there are better, less ostentatious buys, but at the price level of the submariner you are going to have a tough time finding a more timeless piece that will hold its value and not cause you shame when fashion or trends shift. And actually, if I see some old guy in a gold rolex I assume it's fake - if I see someone in a comparatively subtle, silver submariner or GMT, I assume they dive. And no, I don't think they are "that guy" - you can always tell "that guy" from the hair

I want a Rolex because I have seen quite a few and I like them. But for an everyday Rolex, the Sub and GMT are the best options (I won't swim in it lol)?

clbThere's no arguing with taste. If you like it, buy it. But I would still look around first. I like this site for ease of use/variety of watches/good deals: http://www.bernardwatch.com/

Do you know if everything is legit on that site or do you just use it for reference?

I have not bought from them, but it was recommended to me by someone who has. They had no complaints. I like that site because I think they take excellent pictures of their watches. Very good examples of what the watch will actually look like in person. timezone.com is also an excellent resource. The Sales Corner is especially interesting if you can get comfortable wiring/Paypalling a stranger a significant amount of money.

I agree with drexalum that Rollie's look like an older man's watch. That said, by the time I'm gettin' grey's I'd choose from either the
MILGAUSS, black face - http://perfect-timing.biz/product/116400-BLK/full/
Green-Bezel Submariner - http://www.swiss-wrist.com/index.php?vars=products...

Definitely don't limit yourself to a Rolex, though. Plenty of other quality designers out there.

Nice suggestions. I actually wear a Milgauss b/c I like its quirky design plus hardly anyone identifies it as a Rolex. While I'm usually in the "who gives a sh*t"-camp, I have to admit that the Sub and its siblings are too omnipresent for my taste and therefore ppl can spot 'em easily. That being said, I'd love to own a Pepsi-GMT for casual occasions. Coolest incarnation in my book.

submariner is not my thing - looks bulky and it lacks elegance.

Datejust - always reminds me of "BIG" in sex and the city - its timeless.

I got a datejust, and honestly, I love it.

In white gold, it looks very youthful - I find the gold and steel braclet a little mature for a younger person.

As a watch, they are brilliant - don't scratch, sparkle, absolutely divine (sorry to sound to queer, but they really are things of beauty, when you find the one you want)

got a submariner a few years ago pretty much only cause of the brand name and "coolness" factor which i now think is the opposite (and sold it since then). they're overdone and i'm sure many get them because of the timeless design, many more get them to say they have a rolex. i really like iwc for around that price range

I would agree with many that they do look like an old man's watch. That is until you wear one yourself.. The quality and feel is amazing on some of them and I like it more and more everyday.

Any no one gives a fuck what watch you are wearing. 98% of people dont even notice what it is, nor will they care unless they appreciate a fine watch and know what is what.

You can wear a Patek and no one is gonna know what it is and think its ugly, cheap, and they would much rather buy a Rolex or something else they have heard of.

I personally love the classic black face GMT Master II. From a completely different angle, I also really think the IWC Portuguese and Pilot watches are awesome. The Rolex is obviously great for the weekend, but the IWC is something that could be worn to the office everyday. Additionally, the IWC is far more understated if that's something you're interested in.

Rolex is great, but if you are looking for something more unique and loved by watch fans check Patek Phillipe or IWC (as mentioned above). Something more sporty would be Breitling. Rolex Cellini line is great with suits (leather strap dress watch, but very traditional and a bit pricey).
