Shortest time to hear back after interview?
Hey Guys,
I've had a few interviews with BB's and boutiques, and am curious to hear your experience. After all stages of interviews (3 in most cases), what are the shortest and longest times that you have had to wait to hear back? I'm interested in offers and rejections. Anyone ever heard the next day?
The reason I ask is because one job I just interviewed for said they are looking to fill the position "extremely fast" which I took to mean the next day possibly, but that has come and gone.
Experiences?
I received most of my offers the next day. Rejections usually took longer, with roughly 2 weeks being the longest.
Superday on a Wednesday, offer the following Monday.
Shortest was an offer ~45 minutes after my last interview at a BB
Within 1 hr of the last interview
During the interview, haha.
How long does it take to hear after first round?
Probably depends on their time frame. For OCR at my school they sent superday invites the day after first round interviews. I did a phone interview with a non-OCR bank once and never heard back after the first round though.
No one ever heard back on the day of?
I've had offers during interviews. Longest was about 3 weeks after the last interview but thats because it was over the holiday season.
I have heard the day following a superday in two occasions (when I got offers). Same day is probably rare, as is 1 week+ if you are getting an offer. After a first round, some BBs won't get back to you for weeks if you are doing OCR (this means you're not granted a superday)
Just as an example of how inconsistent the spectrum is, here are my two personal extremes on waiting back after being flown in for a superday:
-The shortest I've ever had to wait was an on-the-spot offer (at the place I ended up). -The longest I've ever had to wait was them never responding positively or negatively. In theory, I'm still a 2011 summer analyst candidate at this particular MM.
As you can see, you won't really be able to extrapolate many helpful conclusions from our experiences unless you ask about a particular group within a particular office of a particular bank.
You can’t really read too much into it, even within particular banks. There are a couple of things that can delay you hearing back:
1) There might be a final “sign-off” meeting at which different interviewers calibrate across candidates to be sure that they are comfortable with decision. Even if there is only one day of interviews, this might take a few days to schedule given how tight a lot of senior people’s schedules are. 2) Once the decision has been made, one of your interviewers will be given the job of calling you (if it is an offer, if not, probably HR). If they are particularly busy or just forget about it, they can easily put off doing this for a couple of days. 3) You might be a back-up in case one of the people they want declines
In general, I found that positive responses came back quicker but for one final round I had, I got a rejection call from HR while I was finishing a post-interview coffee in the Starbucks besides the office
