Question: Suit Color
Is a black suit considered inappropriate for the work place? Don't have the money to afford another suit... (this is for a BB IBD SA internship)

Is the suit black or more of a charcoal? If it is black I would definitely consider getting a new one (dark grey or navy). Black suits are usually reserved for funerals or formal events.
Unfortunately, its completely black thanks tho!
Use your salary from the summer gig to buy a new suit.
charcoal suit + black shoes/black belt
Don't do black please
1000 threads like this on the forum, but I won't tell you to use the search function because it's a breath of fresh air when a fashion topic pops up.
Never wear a black suit unless for a formal event, guaranteed your supervisors will chuckle. That being said since you already purchased one, make sure you wear it with a blue shirt and not white https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Cy-ZzH5iPE4/maxresdefault.jpg
If you only have one suit, you shouldn't recycle it. My advice is to just avoid the suit and dress well without it (aka no parachute white shirt)

So I'm specifically looking at the $399 ones. Out of all the $399 ones, which color do you think would be most appropriate? I'm leaning toward a shade of gray since I already have a navy suit.
Also, how does pant sizing work? It doesn't ask for my pant size when ordering
Grey, not too light
Some suits come as separates but generally, jacket and trousers are one size. E.g. 38. Look up their size guide on every detail page to get measurements.
I like the Napoli grey plain one. Not sure on ordering from the website since I haven't done it before.
Black plain.
Black or White.
Piru Red or Pink Panther Pink.
Ok seriously though: Dark blue or Dark Grey - no stripes though, as then it looks weird to wear stripey ties.
Or black with a bit of shine, not plain black.
Personally I like wearing a navy suit. Looks elite imo.
A friend of mine owns a light grey Napoli (the rather modern cut one) and it looks pretty great on him. Definitely more of a summer thing, though.
I like white suits the most to be honest tbh
Navy, Grey, Charcoal. The essentials in order.
You also want a very light suit (off-white / very light grey) for weddings and/or more formal events by the beach.
Is this suit color okay? (Originally Posted: 05/13/2017)
Hey Guys, wanted to ask whether this color is okay (it is dark grey) or if people will say that it is too dark?!

(Please just comment the color)
Looks fine. If off the rack, go to a nice tailour.
Would need to see it in real. As long as it can't be mistaken as black, it's ok. I personally stick to a bit lighter grey suits, and dark blue.
Looks good to me
SA 3rd Suit Color... (Originally Posted: 03/14/2014)
Have Charcoal and Navy solids... Should an SA get a second of either navy/charcoal? Or is something less conservative okay?

Is the dress code even business formal? If it's not, you're wasting your money.
If it is, either of those will be fine...it's a SA stint. Not a huge fan of the top one, but neither one is too flashy.
Get a solid gray one.
I personally think that it might be perceived as preposterous from a mere SA. Don't forget that it could mean that you dress better than a senior of yours. If you were to buy one, I would advise you to go for the striped one as the other is to casual for the workplace. l
Really? The first suit or BB in general? I was under the impression that BB was pretty much the standard for SA/Analysts in IBD?
@wsoanon: I would get the navy with stripe. Not a fan of the gray one.
I think I wore a suit twice during my BB SA stint. Remember, this is summer in New York - it's often 90+ and humid.
I think only DB is still formal.

Hey everyone, I already have a navy, blue and charcoal suit. I'm looking for more than 3. what would you recommend for another?
subtle pin striped or colours ?
Assuming you're a college student, don't wear pinstripes or anything fancy to an interview, as some might view it in bad taste. Just go with basic solid colors. Black/charcoal is by the far the most common.
Do not wear a black suit unless your going to a formal event that requires evening wear, or a funeral.
You have the most important ones. Maybe get a lighter grey than charcoal next.
The 4th of July is coming up. How could this one go wrong? https://www.shinesty.com/products/the-merican-gentleman-american-flag-d…
Light grey maybe? Also think windowpane is generally more acceptable pattern than pin stripes and still looks nice
Second year analyst, Pin stripped or window? if so recommended colours?
window pane is better - gray or blue
just go to your favorite store and look around
Those are the three colors you can use without issue at the office. Instead of venturing into patterned suits or unconventional colors I would recommend buying another navy/grey/charcoal suit but maybe change the lapels and get one with a peak lapel. This is of course assuming you want to use them in an office environment.
Mid grey or any other grey between mid grey and charcoal (of which there are infinitely many) is obviously number 4. Also, there is true navy, bright navy, midnight blue, different weaves etc. Don't think cause you have "blue" and "charcoal" you're covered.
Suit colour! Thanks! (Originally Posted: 06/11/2013)
Hey guys,
I am about to start my first internship at a top BB, but I have no idea about formal clothing/shit like that (and nobody to ask IRL) - I know I have to be as conservative as possible with my clothes. I am currently shopping around for a second suit (first one is a really simple charcoal/grey), and this one fits very well and the price is good. I was wondering if this colour is considered to be classic - I would prefer a slightly darker shade of blue, however is this OK?

Seriously people... There's a forum for this. To answer your question, that'll be fine - blue and grey are both considered classic. Black is for weddings and funerals. Pinstripes/patterns are okay as long as they're subtle/understated.
Thanks for the advice, didn't know that forum existed, my bad.
Everyone else agrees, its fine?
