University of Notre Dame MS in Business
Bang. Another great university offering a specialized masters business degree. Unlike the new Northwestern program this is open to non ND undergrads.
I blogged about it on my website, but wanted to bring it to all of your attention right now. They are currently accepting applications for this years class with a target of 110 students.
If you want to work in Chicago this is probably going to be the program to go to (at least until Northwestern opens their program to non NW UG's).
Hmm. I wonder if IU's MBA program is better than ND's MSF program for IBD Chicago recruiting. I'm willing to bet it is.
Yeah, but the people who get into the ND MS Business wouldn't get into the IU MBA. More for inexperienced people. Think ND's answer to Duke's MMS and Wake Forest MMS.
Is the idea to do this right after undergrad, so they can place into banking/consulting as entry level?
I think the idea is to do this right after or after a year or so of working. Same reasoning why people do an MSF. Maybe someone studied liberal arts and go interested in business, but found breaking in to be too hard. Maybe someone wants to redo another year of school. Maybe someone wants the ND brand.
MBA puts you in at an associate level for IBD or people try to break into such things as PE right there. I guess if you want to look at it that way that is much further away from cold calling but an MBA puts you in a completely different line than an undergrad.
These MSF's or MS in Business type programs are just putting you back in with the rest of undergrads. You don't really get in the front of line because if you can break into consulting or finance right away, you do that. You will go in as an analyst or the same position as undergrads will. You do these if you go to a non-target, screw up UG with grades, miss on recruiting, screw up recruiting, or even try to break into finance from a non-business degree.
And they undercut UIUC by ~5K in tuition and fees ... definitely going to pressure WashU, UIUC, and Vandy in the Central/Midwest region
Yeah, without a doubt. This is the key program for Chicago right now. At least until Northwestern opens their enrollment to non NW undergrads. With USC starting an MSF sometime in the future, this marks two great schools starting a specialized masters.
Next 5 years is going to be extremely interesting for these degrees.
As a Duke MMS alum who gained a lot (both in terms of career and life experiences) from this type of program, I'm happy to see more of these popping up at reputable institutions. For some people who had no finance or business background, it is a valuable education.
My bad, was trying to edit my comment and quoted it. TNA could you delete? Thanks.
I will be looking into this program for sure
Only non-business UGs. Damn.
I'd contact them. Not sure how hard and fast that rule really is.
I requested an info packet from the program and got it the other day. It looks really nice and the letter they sent with it was signed personally by the program director. (just a nice touch) I'm going to be in contact with them and will most likely apply next cycle.
Just got a student review from the first years class in case anyone is interested.

Any placement statistics? I would imagine that the midwestern banks (Baird, Blair, Lincoln, etc.) would heavily recruit here.
