UT vs Rice

What MBA program would you think is best? UT or Rice? I really think that UT has a great MBA program, but I hear people on this site talking about that Rice is better than UT, but I dont think so. Share you opinions on this topic. Thanks in advance.

"dont hitnk that you would get an IB job out of any of those two programmes, so why bother"

Your comment is wrong. You may not get into NYC BB Associate positions out of Rice but I know for a fact that 9 1st year MBA's from Rice are interning with BB's in Houston this summer.

I don't know shit about UT though.

As far as undergrad goes, Rice's liberal arts program is more selective, and probably better than UT's. Rice, however, does not have an undergraduate business program, whereas UT's McCombs school is #5 overall (I believe) and the #1 accounting program. For MBA's, I feel like UT has a stronger alumni network and recruiting presence, if only for its size.

TooLeveragedtoiysam: Wrong on all points. Lots of BB placement.

hahaha what all points, i just had one point.

dont you think that you gotta be like top of your class and preferrably have some former ib experience if you wanna get a shot in getting an associate job out of those schools.

Touche, I think I was splitting your assertion into two: that Rice doesn't place, and that UT doesn't place.

Granted, class rank is going to be more important at these schools than say, HBS, and industry experience is a huge leg up; but to say they don't place in IB is ridiculous.

"kaptaininsano" I went to both: Rice undergrad, UT MBA

I believe that UT has a great MBA program. It doesnt compare to HBS, but still it is definitely a great school. Oh I do believe that you can get an IB job out of UT!

Honestly, for a top finance postion neither school is competitive on an MBA level. Undergrad they are both great, but the level of recruiting at their MBA programs is very weak for IB, and pretty much non-existent for S&T, HF, PE, etc. Not trying to bash anyone's school, but if you want to break into a top finance position and you are shopping around MBA program, go to a top 15 school.

IB is generally difficulty level 2 and easier than. PE VC

Once again, many on this board talk BS when they really have no idea what they're talking about. UT is a top-20 program (18 in US News, 20 in B-Week). Rice is listed as a top-50 program and is decent, but will get you nowhere near the exposure or provide you with the connections UT will. UT is a target school for every single one of the BBs; to my knowledge Rice isn't. You can get into ANY BB in any position you want from UT. Anyone that says you can't has no clue.

Hi Guys,

I live in Houston, TX and I am trying to determine which local MBA program is the best to help me get break into IB. I always thought that Rice was kind of a joke, and that UT was hands down the better school. However, Bloomberg has Rice ranked as the #8 MBA program in the country...I am pretty confused at this point...I don't know which rankings I should be considering or ignoring. One of my friends who got an MBA from Columbia University before taking a job at JPM told me to go with the school that has the better path to IB. It seems like trying to measure something like this is pretty subjective, is there anyway to objectively determine this?

To be 100% clear my primary motivation in all of this is financial. I want to determine the school that gives me the best chance to get into IB. I know some people may consider factors such as which campus is prettier, which faculty is more engaging, which location is better, etc. All of that is secondary in my decision, I want the program that leads to the greater financial benefits down the road. Thanks!
