What Do I Do Now? - Advice?

Can someone please give me some advice?

I applied for IBD roles across all BB's, elite boutiques, MM firms, Big4 etc - no luck (well - 1 top 3 BB IBD interview - dinged after round 2).

I applied to other large companies/'brand names' for finance/strategy - no luck (my application went through to a big tech firm but they only offer 1 year internships not summer).

I applied to consulting - no luck (landed a top 3 interview but they don't offer internships, they thought I graduated in 2013 by mistake).

I applied to prop trading firms - no luck (landed 1 interview abroad and passed the interview but they were then full!)

I applied to small boutiques for IBD - no luck (they told me to apply to bigger firms given my experience).

I applied to start-up companies. Some luck (nothing secured so far - but I should be able to secure something for term-time, not summer).

Summer recruiting is pretty much over in the UK but I'm not sure what/where else to apply.

What do I do with my summer now?

mountainvalleyI don't believe UK is complete. Superdays should go through January at the least and first week of February at the latest.

UK recruiting basically ended in December dude. Your timing listed above is for US.

There might be some small boutiques still recruiting in UK, but the main names are all done. I would keep reaching out to places- many that don't have formal internship programs.

your summer is now three things: getting professional experience in a name brand corporate (anything, go shadow your dad or something); going traveling and having a awesome time, get some stories and make yourself more interesting; or some volunteer stuff.

I've applied to brand name places but had no luck... and shadowing my dad isn't an option. I don't have money to travel (I'm literally poor which is why I also needed the internship). Any ideas on interesting voluntary work (everything I find you have to pay for!)

Hey!

I was in a similar situation as yours last year (I am graduating in May 2013 from a Singapore Uni). I did not have an offer for IBD position until April 2012. However, I continued to network esp with alumni, and suddenly a position arose and the analyst put forth my name for an interview. Thanks to my preparation earlier, I nailed the only opportunity I got. Its still late Jan, and I would advise you to be persistent. Two things are important - getting the interview and nailing the interview. For the former, your only choice is networking EXTENSIVELY and for latter you need to be fully prepared. And believe me, I am sure if you follow the above you would be able to land up a IBD job (maybe in a boutique or sthing). Plus, Singapore is sooo much smaller of a finance centre compared to London, the odds are only better for you.

The industry is tough right now. You're competing not only against penultimate students but also finalists and recent graduates. You got to keep working hard at it.
