Wigging out! Help
In an interview for Merrill Lynch, one of my interviewers asked me if I have ever been arrested.
A question to I which of course answered honestly with a yes.
With a quick explanation following, I did not attend to court on a traffic matter, "speeding" was the case to which the douche judge issued a Bench warrant for my arrest. I took care of everything as I was suppossed to.
My interviewer said "well, I would love to have you onboard, but I hope this is not a game stopper".
WTF? Am I screwed? Is this as bad as robbing a liquor store at gun point to the banking industry?
He also said at Morgan Stanley it would automaticly shoot mr down the tubes.....
I can't be a banker because I got pulled over and got a speeding ticket?
Help I'm freaking out!!!!!!!!!
I'm clean when finger printed! How would they know about a stupid $120.00 bench warrant?
Who the hell gets arrested for speeding. Damn man, sorry. So I am confused, did you get arrested and booked or did you just not pay a ticket and have a warrant issued?
youll probly be fine. i've been arrested before, they know about it, and i got a job for ft. not a huge deal. he probably just meant not a game stopper from a company policy point of view.

I would relax, I'm sure you will be fine. i know honestly is the best policy, but when an interviewer asks if you have been arrested why do you say yes? Technically you were not arrested (assuming) but you received a warrant b/c you missed court. This is like a slap of the wrist and it happens all the time. Considering it is not a felony, it will not show up (most likely) on a background check so I would just leave that information out at all costs.
GL!
Then how did you go to jail? Did you get pulled over again, the police officer saw the bench warrant and then arrested you? Did you voluntarily go to the police station and say "Please arrest me?"
If you weren't arrested then why did you say anything? Warrant doesn't equal arrested. Unless you were booked, finger printed and tried you are generally fine. So you basically got a ticket, didn't show up and probably got your license suspended. Happens all the time.
You should be fine, most places are looking for theft, crimes involving money, violence, etc. A speeding ticket misunderstanding isn't a huge issue.
I don't think a bench warrant for inadventently not showing up to court is going to hurt your chances any more than your roommate's got hurt when he got a C in Sign Language because he forgot about an exam. It was a stupid, inadvertent mistake, and everyone has a few shoved under the rug. The warrant raises no material concerns about your trustworthiness or ability to carry out your responsibilities- at least until you get a summons for jury duty. :D
Edit: If you were never arrested and were never convicted of a crime, IMHO, "I had a bench warrant issued for me" is not really material to the question, "Have you ever been arrested?" They want to know if you've ever been arrested for drug possession, assault, theft, etc. Perhaps the most honest answer is, "No. I've never been arrested. Had an issue with a speeding ticket a few years ago, but I've never been arrested." This will give you a bit of a pass if a background check picks up an old warrant that was retracted.
I believe it's illegal for them to ask the question "Have you ever been arrested?" in the state of New York. In addition, they can only technically discriminate against you for criminal behavior relevant to your potential job performance.
Either a troll or you need to man it up. The guy was clearly joking, if this happened.
no not a troll WTF? Is a troll anyway ???
Judge put a warrant out for my ass, a cop randomly ran my plate and the warrant popped up, he then pulled me over and said "sorry I have to take u in" he hand cuffed my hands and put me in the back of his miserable ass car. Took me down to the PD filled out some paper work I paid $120.00 took a picture and said "I'll drive u back to your car so I can waste some time" dropped me off and that was it.
This must have been in Virginia. The speeding laws are INSANE there.
Sounds like you got arrested. Sorry man. By picture do you mean a mug shot?
you should be fine. Doesn't speak to your ethics/fraud or anything like that
It's illegal to be asked that question...
Not quite universally.
