The Fastest Growing Industry in History
It seems like Appreneurs are springing up everywhere. According to Tim Ferriss, more and more people are discovering financial freedom by having a ureka moment, putting it to code and watching the dollars roll in. Although he believes it to be a little more systematic than that,Tim Ferriss believes he’s found the formula for a successful app business.
While it is promising that no programming skills are needed, it seems to be based on copying already popular apps, ”Don’t hate, emulate!”. Surely if they’re already popular apps yours will merely be ignored? I also think he is a little too positive when he looks at the market; ignoring how easy it is for an app to be swamped. Its true, the market is growing quickly and there have been some moments that would tempt even the biggest cynics to code, but surely only a small percentage can actually quit their job and live off it?
I was recently thinking about making an app to promote my new website, but was concerned that it would get swamped by free financial apps from the big names, so I didn’t put much thought into it. There has been some talk about a WSO app which is a great idea; I certainly think that this site gets enough hits to justify one…
Any monkeys out there doing well in the app world? Is it really as easy as Ferriss says?
Tim Ferris has only one formula, and its to make stuff that takes hard work look easy.
Examples: Four Hour Work Week, Four Hour Diet, Four Hour Ipod App.
yeah but he's damn good at it. "drenched in bull shit" ? couldnt disagree more. haven't read the 4hdiet, but there are definitely some SOLID takeaways from both the book and the blog
I totally agree that he's very good at producing hype and structuring his books in a way that appeal to the masses. However, I disagree on the idea that 4-hour work week offered solid takeaways (I haven't read any of this other stuff, so maybe the "drenched in bull shit" was a little harsh)
I'm not a fan of Ferriss at all. I've read both of his books and checked out his blog. He is excellent in one regard: self promotion. If you want to learn that; emulate him. However, for the sake of brevity I'm not going to list all my criticisms. Check him out if you want - but don't say you haven't been warned. There's a lot of Ferriss fanboys on WSO.
Tony Robbins for younger people. Some good, lotsa hype, most of his fans aren't doing anything he talks about...
Love to know the exact ratio of start-up success-failure stories there are every year in the tech industry.
i love watching ppl chase old money/ ideas. first the internet, then real estate, now social media....ppl r sheep, i fukin love it, makes it so easy to make money if u can spot them
I hired an Indian virtual assistant for two months after I read the 4HWW. It did save me a lot of time doing menial tasks but at the end of the day wasn't worth the $
How much did that run you? What did you actually have them doing?
Just curious...
I think it ended up being $200 per month.
Great to capitalize off of herd mentality. I hope I'm in a position to make money the next time something blows up.
I agree that its possible to see what will bomb next, but timing the tipping point in order to cash in seems tough?
