Investment Banking Help/Advice
Hi guys,
Im currently a Junior in High School. Im not a top of class student or anything but I'm not at the bottom either. I'd say I'm in the top 20% for my class. Investment Banking has always been a dream for me. Everything about it just fascinates me. Im going to be applying to Northeastern, Boston University, Rutgers, and Stern next year. I know Stern is the best on that list to get into investment banking, but I don't think i have the greatest chance of getting in. If anyone can just help me out a bit about which school is best to go to out of the few i listed or any other schools of similar level it would be greatly appreciated. Any other information on breaking into investment banking would be appreciated as well.
Thank you
you can try to go for umich and then try hard your freshman year to go into ross. preferred admission might be a bit of a reach for you. you can also try villanova, georgetown, but they might be harder just because it's a smaller school. But these schools are more on par with stern, not with rutgers or northeastern. lala
.
Sounds like an admission's essay: "Investment Banking has always been a dream for me. Everything about it just fascinates me.".
Seems legit.
i know it sounds like that lol. And i wouldn't really put that in my app.. its just that i really like the field and the rewards for hard work. It always been an interesting field for me and i would love to have a job that i actually like that also pays extremely well.
...how much have you read on these forums? Are you fully aware of what bankers actually do? No offense, but you sound like somebody wanting to go to law school so they can "argue exciting cases" and "change the world".
If banking does suit you, maybe try community college for 2 years to save some money, then transfer to Ross. NYU (and most 4 years, really) are expensive as hell. You are also going into a contracting industry. The competition for jobs could increase, compensation could be cut, or we could see a double dip. Do not take on 100k in loans under the assumption that you will be making 150k post graduation.
Can you possibly find somebody to shadow, or just speak with, before dedicating your college years to the one goal? You are really young to be throwing yourself at IB.
Transferring directly into Ross is nearly impossible, they only take a few kids per year
