SA Night Life

I just accepted a banking SA offer at a BB in New York, and was wondering how much, in general, interns are asked to come out with the full-time analysts/associates when they go for a drink or hit the clubs after work. Are they frequently included in the social scene on the weekends/during the week or is it more of a once in a way treat?

On the other hand, if SA's are not brought along with the team, is there typically much free time for us to go out, or are our social lives put on hold for the summer?

SA hot spots (i avoid these places like the plague in the summer as it is all SA trying to prove something but may be your cup of tea)

luna park 230 5th union bar hotel gansavoort

if your analysts liek you, theyll invite you out

you will prob also have a firm sponsored social event with your analyst class (will always involve heavy boozing) once a week

have fun baking in the oppressive NYC humidity this summer while working long hours, going to subpar clubs/bars, and then going back to your cockroach infested apartment. but hey, if ugly women and terrible lifestyle is your cup of tea, NYC will be perfect!

a) the ny sucks, chicago rules discussion was insipid enough when it was on it's own thread, no need to replicate it here chicagorules et al.

b) bateman - luna park is closed! i think the news was posted on curbed - they're renovating union sq park and putting a restaurant into that space instead.

c) to the OP - at my BB summers formed their own cliques and mainly went out with each other - you're "on" at work all day, you don't wnat to have to worry about being on good behavior while out with FT's too. a lot of networking/quasi socializing goes on among FT"s and summers, but with the exception of full time guys want to score with interns, the vast majority of actual socializing occurs with other summers/your college friends. bateman's list of bars is appropriate although he left out j-tree! if you want to be more knowledgeable about the bar/club scene, start reading nymag & downbythehipster.

Not to sound corny, but I remember when I summered. I wish I still got as excited about working at the firm I was at, walking out in my suit and seeing the city.. going out for the intern happy hours. It was a great time. I'm glad to see the interns come in every summer because it reminds me of those times.

To answer the question, you'll likely become pretty tight with other SAs, but you will also hang out with people in your group. Generally if there is any good looking young woman in your class, if you hang out with her at all, you'll meet a lot of people within the firm. For some reason a lot of the full-times will seek her out for social events. I'll probably be one of them.

Summer BB interns are probably some of the most shallow women I have ever met in my life. Easiest way to get laid is to get a job on the buyside, hang out in front of an investment bank during the summer and pass out your business card to every woman under 23.

Hahahaha.

(really don't know if you were being serious.)

Should you always bear in mind that you are you with your potential future employer, or could one let the hair down?

Never let your employer know they are a stepping stone... That's a sure way to inspire detestation against yourself.

lol. Treating someone as a stepping stone is alot different to keeping in mind that they will be judging you at the end of 10 weeks based on your performance and fit.

My interpretation of your initial post led me to my reaction... I thought you were leading to the point that you were going to leverage your internship for an opportunity with another bank during FT hiring season.

i'm afraid of getting smashed on a friday night, which i have been known to do, and subsequently getting a late night mandate from some prick associate. do you suggest always being on call 24/7, or is it ok to let go on my weekend nights out?

hopefully youre group goes out and stuff.....i just got back from group placement, and i know my group is lax on weekends about coming in, in terms of wearing shorts and rolling in around 1 pm or whatever

i think it's a good mentality to go in focused on doing well on your internship, but the second most important thing is to go out and enjoy nyc. i know all the analysts/associates in my group like to go out, and since we are pretty small, they were all looking to go out and have a good time over the summer

I'm gonna be at an BB in NY this summer, and really looking forward to going out with my group, but the problem is I'm only 19. is there any way i can get into any of the bars/clubs, or should I look to get a fake before the summer?

and chances are you might not get IDd (unless you and your party just look like a bunch of juveniles) or chances are its unsophisticated and a fake will suffice. But generally, if youre trying to get into a hot spot, forget about it - unless you or someone knows the bouncer/doorman youre done before you even started. Theyre serious about ID in the city. Id try to get my hands on an authentic license of someone that looks like you, cause that fake shite wont fly either. Better hop to it, otherwise its going to be a touch and go summer for you.
