Advice for Bank Job
Hi guys, I go to a school that is ranked 45-40. I have had two real estate internships and I want to break into banking. I went from a 2.87 gpa for my first 2 years to 3.27 gpa that I round to a 3.3 on my resume. I am not qualified enough for an analyst position realistically, even though I am very knowledgeable about financial markets, corporate finance, and financial products. I’m trying to find a job that I could have at a bank for 1-1.5 years and work on my cfa to pivot to an analyst role in NY. Also, I have a strong personal connection with a pretty high up employee at a particular bank that allows me to talk straight to recruiters. My question to you all is what position should I target. I found that I’ve been turned down from one more operational position because I am overqualified yet I’m not qualified enough for an analyst role. Any recommendations?
Also, if you are feeling generous, please hit the banana so I can get more responses. Thanks.
Look for roles outside of pure ibanking. Try for areas like private wealth management or some middle office jobs like credit risk

No offense, but I don't think your experience is too strong for PWM. Maybe you just need to work on your story as to why you're interested in that area. You shouldn't be signaling to your potential employer that it is only your backup option. And if this one particular bank where you have a connection doesn't work out, there are tons of other firms out there. Just keep trying. Most people in school apply to dozens of jobs before finding the right offer.
