http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/comprehensive-us-msf-ranking. This forum is really helpful for anyone considering a MSF. Considering your profile, I think Vanderbuilt is out of the question. I would stick to Tier 2 for your reach schools and Tier 3 as your realistic options. Anyway, a 1.5? Really?
Honestly, probably want to knock it down a tier (or maybe even two). Tier 2 as a reach is a pretty far reach in my opinion. That GPA is really going to hold him back. The middle 80% of GPAs end at around a 3.05 for Tier 3 schools so his GPA will be in the bottom 10% or less.
That will be a tough sell when you are interviewing for IBD's. Better start thinking of a pitch ASAP.
maybe add duke mms to this list? idk your gpa is really low, man.
I think you've got a shot at Illinois and UT Austin.
Those would be the two places to get an MS in accounting.
After that I would aim for Big Four and not look back. Today, the mean career in Big Four accounting looks better than the mean career in finance.
IP, isn't that GPA going to get his resume tossed 100% of the time at the Big 4?
^^^ They need A GPA that's above 3.5. Not necessarily an undergrad GPA.
You have an upward sloping GPA. That will work in your favor. Also your GMAT is in line with most of these schools. If you can put together a compelling essay as to why you want to study with good rec's you should be able to get into a few of the schools that you have on your list. Be careful with the accounting degree as that might back you into operations.
Well, I can't speak for all schools... But at my school, you must have a degree in accounting to get into MSA or MST (taxation)...
Also, your GPA will really hold you back - though your GMAT is fine.
1) Many, not all MAcc degrees require an accounting UG. You can usually take pre classes to fit that requirement. Any well known, big school will be fine for that degree. BIg 4 recruit at a ton of schools. Just make sure you have a really good GPA. My buddy get a job at E&Y from Baruch and he was an international relations UG.
2) Upward trend in the GPA is good. Your GMAT is fine enough.
Arizona - MSF (most likely in) Purdue - MSF (most likely in) Boston College - MSF (maybe) Houston - In Texas Tech - In Vanderbilt - Maybe. GPA might hurt you as this is a pretty competitive program Fordham Rochester - MSF - most likely in Illinois - MSF Very competitive Villanova - MSF Competitive UT-Austin - MSF Slim chance SMU - MSF - In
UT-Dallas - Dont bother UT-Arlington - Dont bother
I have to disagree with IP. That GPA won't see the inside of McCombs without more triage.
Spend an extra year in undergrad. Change majors and focus on getting a high GPA in your new major (accounting or finance). High major GPA and a good story as to why you did so poorly as a frosh will go a long way.
