How to move to Growth Equity from Banking post MBA???
Dear Monkeys,
I am currently at an M7 Bschool (outside of H/S), and accepted a summer associate role at a BB. Before Bschool, I had a management level role at a start-up that did very well (equity raise with major PE sponsor). I would love to go back to the growth equity industry, but as an investor and was advised to get transactional experience before making the move.
I was hoping you guys could help answer a few questions I have:
-
To move to growth equity, should I focus on coverage or a product (LevFin/M&A) or both (FS)? This would help me in my group selection process.
-
How often do associates move to growth equity shops? I've heard that it's tough to leave banking post MBA for PE, but does that hold true for growth equity/VC?
-
Would consulting at MBB have positioned me better for such a move or are exists post-MBA for MBB just internal strat/corp dev?
-
Would an elite boutique (specifically Qatalyst, GHL, EVR) hold the same cache with growth equity companies as BB's do? I know Lazard is a very well known bank, but how does these other banks compare?
Am I just being retarded because recruiting is over and I SHOULDN'T be stressing (serious question).
Thank you so much for your help. These forums have provided me with some fantastic advice, which has ultimately led me to my SA offer.
I hope Brady doesn't see this...
