How to move to Growth Equity from Banking post MBA???

Dear Monkeys,

I am currently at an M7 Bschool (outside of H/S), and accepted a summer associate role at a BB. Before Bschool, I had a management level role at a start-up that did very well (equity raise with major PE sponsor). I would love to go back to the growth equity industry, but as an investor and was advised to get transactional experience before making the move.

I was hoping you guys could help answer a few questions I have:

  1. To move to growth equity, should I focus on coverage or a product (LevFin/M&A) or both (FS)? This would help me in my group selection process.

  2. How often do associates move to growth equity shops? I've heard that it's tough to leave banking post MBA for PE, but does that hold true for growth equity/VC?

  3. Would consulting at MBB have positioned me better for such a move or are exists post-MBA for MBB just internal strat/corp dev?

  4. Would an elite boutique (specifically Qatalyst, GHL, EVR) hold the same cache with growth equity companies as BB's do? I know Lazard is a very well known bank, but how does these other banks compare?

Am I just being retarded because recruiting is over and I SHOULDN'T be stressing (serious question).

Thank you so much for your help. These forums have provided me with some fantastic advice, which has ultimately led me to my SA offer.
