Resume Review: Consulting to VC or PE
Thanks for checking out my resume - any and all comments and critiques are welcome. Do you think it has what it takes to VC or PE, particularly one with a degree of focus on water tech or water infrastructure?
Also side question - is it possible/typical for individuals from VC to transition to PE, and vice versa? Or is it more typical to pick one or the other and stick with it for life?
FYI the management consulting work is with a Big 4 consulting firm, and the school I went to is non-target.
A couple comments...my 2cents, take it or leave it.
1) You dont have the heavy financial modeling experience that is required for PE or even VC, so right off the bat your at a significant disadvantage. Furthermore, you have very little experience...a PE/VC shop will typically bring in a consultant who has significant (and deep) expertise in a given industry, and this is primarily for an operations advisory role - not buy side type work (the consultants are typically used for subject matter experts, unless your coming from MBB which in that case can easy leverage into a associate+ type role)
2) Given your limited background and lack of experience, it will be very difficult to break into a PE shop (almost near impossible unless you can network your ass off), and will be just as hard to get into VC.
3) I would cover up some more specific areas of your resume, such as the award (I personally think its always great to show this kind of stuff off, but not on this forum where your anonymity is key...I easily found your linkedin profile in a matter of seconds with the content you have on your resume, so be careful)
4) Try to move into accentures strategy group where you will get more exposure to transaction type work and have a better network to leverage (i.e., mba grads who have colleagues whom work in PE/VC)
5) good luck!
