A networking dream-list!

hi everyone! I have just registered on WSO, but I've been lurking around for a while...

I have a question for all of you monkeys out there. I'll be soon graduating, and I am starting to look for a job in banking

At the moment, I am interning in a company that organizes networking events for executives, and I happen to be working with a huge database of people attending the next conference. These people are MDs, Partners, country managers, and there's also a couple of CEOs. The database includes their contact information: phone, emails, etc...

My question is: is there any way I can leverage this dream-list? Since my internship will be over by the time the conference is on, I won't be able to attend it and network with these executives in person, but Id like to grasp the opportunity.

Cold-emailing just feels wrong, in addition to that, what could I actually say? "Dear sir, I found this email address on my desktop - resume is attached" ?

I'm open to any comment /suggestion!

Don't do it. Finally someone is smart enough to get an internship at YPO rather than all the simplistic "I interned at a BB this summer." Were you at the W two weeks ago? Maybe we met.

I rich, smarts, and totally in debt.

Hi guys, thanks for the inputs! @Victoria and leveRAGE: that's exactly what I was thinking of doing, but unfortunately I won't be in the country by the time the event takes place... I didn't get to meet anyone during my internship, but my boss said openly: "Those are all people who could get you a job!" Maybe I should ask HIM to hand out my CV during the event!

Privacy is also the reason why I'm not gonna give out any details about the location (@MrDouche: it wasn't YPO :))

Linkedin..........................................................................a notenook, perhaps.

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

Find five guys and then send five emails. Don't build it up and blow your load all at once. Chances are good you're also going to tweak your email as you go along to make it sound better, less stupid, etc. That's much better than the possibility of sending a crappy email to 100 people.

Never stop cranking out emails and calls until you have an offer in hand. There is no magic number that will guarantee you a job. It's all about timing and, more than anything, luck.

If you can get one person to reply, consider that a victory.

Totally depends upon your geography and the the area of finance, so I can't fully answer your question. haha. Some people in certain places just have less time to reach out.

But olaf has the right idea. Take it slow.

If you want some exact numbers I had a friend who worked into an I-banking internship using this shotgun approach. He sent out 80 emails (Half to PE half IB) and got back about 20 responses. This led to 5 meetings, and 3 interviews, and 1 offer. Good luck to you!
