I know BX takes some undergrad interns but I didn't know about Apollo taking any. I just saw that they had a posting on my school's career services site.
The posting is for Apollo's PE and Capital Markets groups. I know Apollo is well reputed for PE but how are its hedge funds, esp. mezzanine and distressed?
Thanks!

noone is doing well right now
by thedudealthough getting an internship at apollo would look pretty good on any resume.
Apollo is first and foremost a debt house
by cardinal69Leon Black is a disciple of Milken; anything in their high yield/distressed area is likely very legit
Their PE portfolio is screwed but apparently they continue to raise new money
BDC?
by MMmonkeyesp. mezzanine
would this be working for their BDC?

Posting doesn't mention AINV so I don't know. The Capital Markets Operation blurb just says that they have $13.2 B spread out over ten capital markets vehicles and the different strategies/assets being covered.
I'm a sophomore so definitely not expecting anything for this summer - just trying to find out more info. for when I do apply for summer 2010.
haha
by curiousmonkeyApollo is so ****ed. It's kind of ridiculous.
I guess they're taking interns now because they're having a hard time recruiting.
They got really, really lucky that they raised their latest fund before the markets sank. Their last fund is going to make no return. in fact, I think the firm is in danger of blowing up...
most people think cerberus
by thedudeis the closest to the big explosion. again, if you can get an undergrad internship at any of these places though, it would probably look good on a resume. they are still respected.

Apollo closed a fund in December 2008 @$15bn so not sure what the "before markets sank" refers to...
agree on Fund VI tanking, i heard the IRR was down to 20% but this was in mid-'08... and they did take a hit on Huntsman-Hexion with a $700m break-up fee in Q3'08...

I'd say Apollo internship is
by Marcus_HalberstramI'd say Apollo internship is tops.. over any BB internship.
Considering IBD guys are trying to get over to the buyside/PE... an internship at a top PE would be better than an internship at a top BB. Assuming its a legit internship and you're doing interesting work.

by LeggoMyGekkothe apollo internship listed at columbia nyu are for the backoffice (finance, ops, treasury, fin reporting, etc.)

My buy-side urges can't ever convince me to jump from my BB to Apollowing :X
