Change jobs from product control to corporate development?
Been doing internal finance (product control+valuations) at a BB for 3.5 yrs - 2.5yrs at a top BB and 1yr at a lower BB for higher pay.
Currently making around 90k (probably with no bonus), but I recently got an offer to do corporate development at a Internet company in Japan (top 10 player). It pays less (around 70k in US dollar terms) but the work seems much more interesting.
You guys think its worth it to make the switch? Dunno if I want to stay in this company for the long term but I think it may be good to gain experience and perhaps go for an MBA after 3-4yrs.
Just turned 25 yrs/old just fyi.
Please let me know your opinions.
Thanks,
Leo

i know im not answering the
i know im not answering the question you asked, but i thought ppl in product control made some decent bonuses? i had a friend at a lower BB who got 20% his first year there. are bonuses really low/non-existent?? if so, that makes me so much happier that i got passed up by a top BB for a product control position i had recently interviewed for.
oh and to answer your question, (keep in mind i am pre-mba and this advice is entirely based on discussions with coworkers/ppl on WSO), but i would really consider taking the job. product control is pretty dead-end (the reason i interviewed for it is because i absolutely hate my life in big4 audit right now and desperately want to get out). i figure the corp dev job will look better on your MBA apps than 5-6 years of straight product control. it also gives you better options if you decide an MBA is not the route you want to go.
