Corporate Development (Internal M&A at Internet Company) vs Product Control at BB

Been doing internal finance (product control+valuations) at a BB for 3.5 yrs - 2.5yrs at a top BB and 1yr at a lower BB for higher pay.

Currently making around 90k (probably with no bonus), but I recently got an offer to do corporate development at a Internet company in Japan (top 10 player). It pays less (around 70k in US dollar terms) but the work seems much more interesting.

You guys think its worth it to make the switch? Dunno if I want to stay in this company for the long term but I think it may be good to gain experience and perhaps go for an MBA after 3-4yrs.

Just turned 25 yrs/old just fyi.

Please let me know your opinions.

Thanks,

Leo

Don't know why you'd want to trade down from 90K to 70K. Japan is a low-growth market and the economy's still reeling from recent disasters. Adjusting for cost-of-living, this 20k spread may be even higher. Which track would lead to a sooner promotion? Do you know what kind of hours you're getting from the corporate gig? The Japanese have a very work-heavy culture. And the grass is always greener on the other side.

Well, the work I do now is boring as hell, and there is no future in it (I'm looking after fixed income products, and the firm i work for now is significantly reducing its fixed income platform - take a guess which firm - and back office staff are getting offshored/outsourced by the day since Japan is a very expensive location).

I've also always been interested in M&A/corporate development and thought that this might be a nice career switch. Also the internet industry is growing and this company does a lot of cross border deals (where I can use my english as well as Japanese).

MomentaLaughhow are you making 90,000 but not getting a bonus?
getting paid in yen so when converted to USD its around 90k.

Could any one else please advise??

Would this opportunity be good for the long term - product control is rlly a dead end and want to get out, but want as much insight as possible as to whether this is a good opportunity...

Do you guys think its a good idea to forget about salary for the moment, get experience, and then head to a top 15 or so MBA in 3-4 yrs time?

Thanks!
