Busy during superday. What do?
I have a superday with an elite boutique bank next week and from what I can tell, it's pretty structured in that they're inviting all of the candidates to their office that day. Their office is across the country so I would have to fly there. It's on a Friday. The thing is, my friends and I planned to go on a 3 day cruise that starts Friday. It's nonrefundable and was pretty expensive.
Do you think it'd be possible to have my superday the day before? Has that ever happened? Should I tell them I'm going on a cruise, or give another excuse?
May I ask you which EB you are interviewing with?
Ask for another day?
Which EB is it?
Let this be a lesson to everyone else to do your best to not schedule anything that could cause a conflict like this during recruiting season.
Usually banks won't do a superday just for one internship candidate (i.e., it's unlikely that you could interview with everyone by yourself the day before though there are exceptions, especially for well-connected candidates), but there may be a later superday that you can go to... Never know until you ask.
Another factor to take into account is how the rest of your recruiting has been going.
My thoughts are that they'll likely just make you choose between the cruise / superday as opposed to re-scheduling just for you, unless you're like their #1 candidate and they love you. SA's are so replaceable and chances are there are dozens of kids that are equally capable so its not really worth the extra effort on their part. (Sounds rude but its more or less true)
Don't say you're going on a cruise. You may have to choose between the two - maybe say you have an exam that da that can't be moved or osmething?
Superday Conflict, What Should I Do? (Originally Posted: 02/10/2012)
I got superday invites from both Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan as a summer intern in their Investment Management divisions. Problem is, they're both on the same day. What should I do? Should I be honest and hope they'll understand my conflict? Should I come up with an excuse to try to get one of the interviews moved to another day? Or am I just screwed and forced to choose one or the other in terms of continuing my candidacy? These are by far my best two internship leads and I really don't want to have to completely lose one just on the basis of this bad timing. Thanks for any advice or information.
It can't hurt trying to get one moved but if they're superdays don't get your hopes up. I'd still try though. If that doesn't work then it looks like you're choosing one or the other. Do you strongly prefer either city?
the positions are actually both based in chicago, its just that one of the superdays is still at headquarters in NYC.. sorry for the confusion just removed that part of the post
Superday Conflict (Originally Posted: 10/14/2008)
I just received notification that I was invited to a Superday with Firm A. Unfortunately, it's scheduled for the same day as another Superday I already have lined up with Firm B. Is there a diplomatic method to go about rescheduling one of the Superdays? The problem is:
-Firm A is less "prestigious" (meaning it's smaller, does fewer mega-deals, and is more of a niche player), but I know for a fact that they're actively looking to ramp up their US IBD -Firm B is a bulge bracket, but the hiring outlook, given the current volatile market trajectory, is uncertain
I wouldn't think it'd be wise to tell either HR straight-up that I have another Superday on the same day, as that would lend the impression that I'm already favoring another firm. What methods would you suggest in attempting to resolve this scheduling conflict?
Thanks in advance.
most BB firms have multiple super days, talk to HR @ the bb and you should be able to work something out
The BB will probably be more flexible and less concerned that you have an interview with another firm. If anything, it may actually make you more desirable.
caveat, I would recommend talking to the BB HR first though. the smaller place might not be as thrilled about it
L is right on. Most BB's have multiple superdays. Also, recruiting is a lot like picking up girls..they want to feel like they are your number one choice but also that you are capable of dating other girls.
Conflict btwn Exam and Banking Superday (Originally Posted: 12/14/2009)
So I have a final on a banking superday, bank offered to reschedule to another day but do I come off as kind of lame to the group I'm interviewing for?
This all started b/c my prof said I would have to have an INC on my transcript, and make up the exam later, if I chose to do the superday.
So essentially, get an INC this semester and then take the exam and have the course's grade appear next semester. Problem is that any time I use my transcript for anything ppl will ask questions...
So, advice?
x
But is rescheduling a superday alright? I'm afraid I'll be irritating the interviewers by making them go through that process twice?
Having the 'Incomplete' on a transcript kind of sucks though, as I'd have to explain it whenever I apply for something.
if they're giving you the option to reschedule I don't see why you shouldn't take it. If they didn't want you to reschedule, they wouldn't give you that option.
If this is for FT, don't reschedule the superday as there maybe limited analyst spots.
Just take the exam next semester. This isn't all that hard.
Advisory88 is clearly a clown. Reschedule it you fool. They wouldn't bring you down for no reason
You are an idiot. Firms can have multiple superdays and it's very common to see more offers being given out on earlier superdays. If this is for FT, I think it is very probable that there are very few spots left.
doesn't matter either way---- just relax
Usually they give our more offers during the first set of superdays. It also seems like the INC you get is only temporary and will be erased the next semester. So I'd recommend skipping the exam and going for the superday.
Best of luck!!
Agree - take the exam later.
And HR rescheduled me for another one later... from which I got an offer.
