Is this for summer or FT? I personally would take the BB in London. If you were waiting on GS to let you know when your superday is, and you've been crushing interviews like no ones business, then it might be worth it. But if you don't have an interview there yet at all? Nah. Not worth the risk.

don't say anything to the bank you have an offer with, instead if you have been talking to GS HR, call them and say you have an offer that you have to accept by a certain date, but you are still very interested in Goldman and were wondering what the status was of the process. GS will see you have an offer and most likely try to fit you into their process before your offer expires at the other BB. and if they aren't willing to do anything, fuck them and go with the other BB.

best of luck.

Thank you, guys! It is FT, not summer. Both in London.

They told me they will see if there is some team in London interested in me. If yes - I will have to do additional interviews with this team. And there is no chance to have the interviews done before the deadline of another offer. Actually I will hear from them on the day before the deadline. I am a bit concerned if it is worth the risk of ruining my reputation and maybe loosing an offer with another bank.

in that case, beggars cant be choosers, I would either take the other BB or the regional GS offer, and if you decide upon the regional GS, do the summer there and then if you get FT offer, try and transfer to London.

@FeedMeDealFlow:

It is already an FT offer. And I decided to go to London, as in the regional I would have to stay some 2 yrs which sucks. So now I am thinking if to call BB and ask them for an extension for 5-7 days (but have to find some reason) to give a chance for GS or just stay with that BB?

At this point I think you need to make the best of what you have, which is pretty damn good by anyone's book. If I were you I'd cross GS London IBD off your list now and figure out what to do between the two offers you currently have.

@fishtail90: I have already figured out I got to BB in London. The only thing left to consider is if to try this and risk the other offer?

I am not sure, how common the extensions of the deadline are? Is it a normal thing to do, or not so good?

@km190

Yes, that actually makes sense. It is also my concern that they can so easily rescind and then in the end I have nothing. Because they are not obliged to wait for my decision longer than 2 weeks. And I think the demand for this position is high.

I just thought that maybe I have high chances of getting an offer from GS if I already got an offer from them in a regional office.

I wouldn't assume anything. @km190 is right.

Honesty is definitely not the right way to go in this case. If you tell them you want to attend other interviews, you can't expect them to say, "Oh great, well we really appreciate being your #2! Please reach out to us when you get a final decision from GS. We'll be sure to keep a spot open just for you that tons of other applicants will kill to have".

If I were you, take the BB offer you have and see how you like it. Worst case scenario is you make a lateral move to GS next year

Hi, I have an offer with a BB IBD in London (Barcap) which expires soon. At the same time I am waiting for GS IBD to tell me if I am getting interviews with them, but they will not be able to tell me before my deadline. Should I try to extend it?? Or is it too risky?
Thank you!

Ok did not bother reading the responses.

But you are a bit of a moron. Ask for an extension you will get dinged. I would ding you and personally be so happy to get you off my back and give the offer to somebody else. Shopping an offer around is highly unethical.

There is one thing sensible people with half of a brain do in your instance: Go to GS and tell them you have an offer. The deadline is so and so, and you need to get an offer before that from them so they need to hurry the process. If they don't accept that, and you don't accept the offer from Barclays in the timeline you will have no offers - as if GS does not rush the process they don't want you in the first place in London.

To be candid. The reality is you have two offers, regional GS and BB london. Forget GS London unless you tell them you have an offer. You are also not considering the outcome of losing both offers by not being decisive. Analyze the pros and cons for YOU, and make a damn decision before the only thing you're left with is your dick in your hands.

Bankers generally like candidates to be grateful when they receive an offer, i.e. accept the offer on the spot. You should have thought about the pros and cons of joining a bank beforehand. But since you've decided to try for better ones, never mind about that. Won't recommend to extend deadline unless you're 99% sure you'll get GS London. Just give GS HR some pressure and ask them to hurry up for christ sake. Unfortunately it's usually quite difficult for IBD to know their exact manpower needs until a few months summer the following year. You gotta do some weighing yourself unfortunately.

Thank you guys for the valuable insight. It was my first experience, so I was not sure, when someone told me asking for an extension is a completely normal thing happening everyday. Therefore decided to ask here. I had the feeling myself it's a bad idea
