M&A exit opps are a lie

In M&A myself, liking it and believe that it offers good possibilities but...
I think the people who say that M&A is so much better in terms of exit opps than other careers are wrong. In the end, you get into the very selective group of people doing M&A and as an exit opp you (in most cases) transfer to the "other side of the table" be it corp dev or private equity/vc. Of course in theory you could use your skill set to do so many other things but in reality most will pick the thing they know most about and have a competitive advantage over others.
Just saying that the exit opps (the logical ones) are much more limited then one might think at first.

This is plain stupid.

How did you get in M&A in the first place?!

What kind of exit ops were you imagining? Everyone going into M&A besides probably yourself imagined that they might head towards corp dev, PE/VC. M&A has never been nor will ever be a free pass to do whatever you want in life.

gordoLately I've developed a growing interest in M&A. I'm a rising junior and currently doing an unpaid internship at a small M&A advisory firm, with hopes of getting a BB IBD next summer.

I find the work I'm doing to be very interesting, but I don't want to do this forever. I looked into M&A divisions at law firms but I'm afraid that my options are too narrow. My question is; what are some of the exit ops for M&A?

There are countless exit opps. PE, HF, corporate world, b-school, etc etc. M&A offers broadest array of exit opps
