How do you guys format financial ratios in a report? Do you use for e.g. "1.51x" or "1.51xs"?
I need to settle this once and for all. An associate at my bank keeps correcting my reports with useless changes, the most annoying being adding an 's' to the end of every financial ratio quoted. Not only is the extra letter redundant, I think it defies industry standard. The worst thing is that the only reason he does it is to gain extra credit within the team, often passing off my work as his own. Am I being overly sensitive here? Is it really worth making such a fuss over one stupid letter?
I use "x" in Big 4 M&A Group and I used "x" in a BB M&A Group. I've never seen "xs". Having said that, if that guy wants everything in the "xs" format just go with it...
I'm on your side. "x" is read "times" not "time", hence the "s" is superfluous. Written while other screen is full of covenant levels, all in format "2.49x"

"1.51x" is how it should be done, though I tend to round to a single decimal ("1.5x") for most multiples.

Funny you should say that, he actually marks-up my reports with MM too! Last time I checked, million wasn't spelled with two 'm's. This guy is seriously testing my early onset OCD..

I use "mm" when space is a constraint. I prefer to spell out million(s) and I had no problem using just "M", but was told it may get confusing when I was a Ute.
Never seen "xs" before. Your associate may, in fact, be fucking with you. Or who knows, maybe that's the preference on your team. Just take his comments, he's your boss, not us.
I've seen MM before but there's no such thing as xs...sounds like the hallmark of a complete retard.
