GE Equity - Thoughts?
Hello All,
I am interested to hear the forums' opinion regarding GE Equity - the PE arm of GE Capital. I understand that the group is not a major mega-buyout shop, however what are your overall thoughts?
Also, what is the likelihood of moving from GE Equity to a true PE/VC firm?
Thank you in advance for all responses; they are appreciated.
Regards,
Chimp
I would also like to know this.

Sorry to dig up an old thread.. But is there any information on GE Equity?
Where they recruit? Is it actual PE? Compensation? Locations? Exit Opps?
If it has been discussed on another thread post the link.. Gracias in advance
Currently interning at GEAM, don't know too much about their PE business but can say a little based on my observation here. GE has a "weird" structure. GE Equity definitely does some MM PE, while GEAM also have its own PE team. Why? I have no clue.
From what I saw in GEAM, at entry level you probable get underpaid, definitely less than Blackstone/KKR (lol). Not sure about VP and MD.
A lot of people at GE capital or GE Asset Management are from FMP. So i guess you just need to go to apply to fmp at their website. Not sure about mba recruiting.
from what i know
GE Equity operates like a PE, the difference being sometimes they do deals that might have some strategic spin to it, due to its relation with GE
lifestyle is better than megafund, i hear you get off work at around 8pm (except live deals)
pay is probably pretty good but obviously lower than large PE funds
Do you know if they recruit directly or if you have to do the normal GE FMP rotation? Also any clue on where they recruit, exit opps, and career progression there?
How does GE Capital/AM comp look once you actually start getting promoted?
GE Equity invests in both companies and PE funds themselves. They do recruit directly/outside of the rotational program, but I don't think they hire often to begin with. When there's an opening, it will be on the GE careers website.
That is what started my research initially. I know they have the GEAM but I never knew they had a PE arm. I saw a posting on the career website for an associate role in GE Equity (PE) and got curious.
Any further insight would be AWESOME. Lifestyle, Comp, Exits, Reputation, etc.
My supervisor told me they normally recruit directly from FMP (Both GE Capital/GEAM). For GEAM, the MD said they basically only hire MBA/MSc for FT outsides FMP, although they do provide summer internship for undergrad (with very few spots). So if you wanna apply for PE, both GE capital and AM is fine, but I assume GEAM is relatively harder to get into.
Life balance is very good. As a SA I come in the office at 9am and get out around 5:30 or 6pm, depends on me if I wanna stay longer. But yes the compensation is lower than the street even though we manage a megafund. For portfolio managers and MD, it's around 60 hours per week. But you have to travel a lot. I think the MD is the busiest person actually; he is always on business trips, or shopping some weird stuff on eBay......
Give it a good old bumpity bump bump
GE and PE equity are almost the same. PE fund themselves. GE Equity invests in the two companies. The pay structure seems high, but the job openings are very limited.
Worked across the table from them before on a small sell-side. Did not have a good impression. Wouldn't want to work there.
Is GE Asset Management under GE Capital?
