Internship is helpful, but not enough for everyone. When you get really raked through the coals for more than a few months, and are spread thin over a number of live deals that are pretty busy - I think you realize if it's for you or not.

I had a blast my internship - got crushed but liked the learning aspect and being young in NYC was awesome. That said - you have a year of college ahead of you. FT came around, training blew - and then the deal flow piled in - it was exciting the first couple weeks, but when you get staffed with some doucher, who you have to work late with every night - it can really ruin the experience.

I got out to pursue another type of field - but everyone's experience is different. I have friends at BBs, MMs, and even crappy shops who had great experiences (combination of pay, lifestyle and dealflow/experience).
