How long before hearing back from interviews?

How long should one wait after summer analyst interviews before hearing back when they can say "I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get it, or am one of the last alternates"?

It's been 2 days since one of my interviews, and I have not heard anything from HR. How long should I wait before calling HR and asking for my status?

Is it true that if they want you they generally call you either that day, or the very next day?

I got a full-time offer on the spot from a BB. The last guy interviewing me told me he had to take a call and then a couple of minutes later my past interviewers walked in and laid out the offer. I couldn't make their superday, and apparently I was the last person to interview...

After 4-5 hours of interviews at a BB superday in the morning, I got an evening call from a VP who basically did a one hour phone interview with me. He then told me pretty much that I would be getting a call the next morning to hear the result. Is this common or was I just a borderline accept?

they may have you on the back burner in the event their first choices do not accept. when I was interning only 12 people would get offers so we started to game the intern class.. one top kid did real well on lsat and was going to law school.. one girl was going TFA, another top kid wanted to be as a BB.. one by one people just fell out and the analyst class was not the best of the intern class but the best of who was available.

It wasn't a super day. It was an interview with a boutique firm though. I have since emailed the HR recruiter twice asking whether my candidacy is being considered but I haven't heard anything yet.

Basically, I just want to know whether I was dinged or not.

Be patient - boutiques often run a little slow - contrary to all intuition, which should state that smaller firm = quicker results. There are a great many people competing for this one spot and if you were interviewed in the beginning or middle of the process, they might want to see a few more before offering a position, dinging you, or inviting you for another interview.

There is nothing wrong with reaching out to HR, but there is also nothing wrong with pursuing other opps - while you wait for this decision you can absolutely look for other opps, since I'm sure you're not the only candidate that they are considering.

Regarding next steps, since it is a boutique, I would probably shoot an email to the banker and thank him/her again, then include a little point about your candidacy - whether they are still evaluating other candidates, etc and when you can expect a decision - whether next round, acceptance or what have you. Alternatively, you can call HR, but if you go back to HR, I would wait until the end of this week since you've already emailed twice and they might just be a bit backed up. Good luck.

I was an international student and went to a Canadian semi-target school (not gonna list the name, lots of hatred here). And if I don't land any ER gig in the coming 2 months, I'm gonna get a random part time just to feed and heading back to HK in the summer, seeking for more opportunities there.

You should try to email the managers you interviewed with/any contact at the company. You could also call HR and figure out your status and restate interest in the company, especially since it seems you did well.

For the lead! Sipag, tiyaga, at lakas ng loob!

Not hearing back can mean one of two things, either you just did not get the offer and the firm did not even do the decency to let you know, or they are still interviewing other candidates and don't want to cross you off the list yet. I would maybe shoot them another email and then continue searching for another opportunity. And with that being said continue to relentlessly pursue all job leads until you have a written offer in hand. Best of luck

I would suggest you call one of your interviewers who you connected well with and ask him about the current status of the interviewing process. this is also another chance to refreshen your candidacy for the position during your 5-10 minute discussion with him to remind him how great you were. I wouldn't lose hope yet, but always smart to keep interviewing.

Got a call from the recruiter today saying I was their #1 candidate but there has been a delay because some of the managers have been out of the state on business and they have one more interview next week.

She also told me that the managers were asking about me today and said that even if they decide they want to also hire the guy they interview next week, they will potentially move one of us into a different department to bring me on board.

Generally, the decision on analyst hires has been made within a few hours of the time you walk out of the office. Unless, of course, HR just isn't on its game, which is entirely plausible.

The reason for this is simple. A week after you interview, nobody will remember a thing about you, so we try to strike while the iron is still hot. Everybody who met you gets in a room, makes fun of you for ten minutes, then depending on whether the most vocal person liked you or didn't, a decision is generally coerced out of the group within 15 minutes, tops.

If you made it, someone will generally call you, sooner rather than later. If you didn't, you may be waiting for the form letter via USPS. There are exceptions to the rule depending on how disorganized the firm is, but that's more or less how it goes.

Well what should I say? I don't want to be a pest after only 3 days and say "Have you guys made a decision on me yet?"

One of the last words the interviewer told me was that she would discuss the results of the interview with the MD.

well ask what the MD thought and tell them to hurry up with their decision.

Calling never helps. Like most silly things an analyst can do, most of them can hurt you, few can help you.

I've never seen a situation where we were on the fence about someone and then said "Geez, what a go-getter, give him an offer" because he called to follow up.

what if they forgot he existed because they have been working on a huge deal? he should probably call to remind them that they interviewed him and he didn't just fall off the face of the earth.

definitely call back it's the professional thing to do.

Unlikely that everybody he met went straight from the interview to fairness committee. Besides, someone in HR would follow up to say, "what did you think of the kid you saw today?". That's what they do.

The only real roadblock is the staffer/recruiter for the group sitting down with the group head to figure out where the number of offers stands compared to the number of open slots allocated for the group. That takes 20 seconds. Believe me, I know.

Most MD's have razor sharp memories and pull the trigger quickly. They will not take your's and another candidate's resume home and ponder more over the decision.

If you are a guy who is on the fence, you'll get a call in three days instead of two....

Call back - do it!

If you haven't it is the professional thing to do... just tell them how you enjoyed meeting them all... and reiterate the key sell points you made....

In the end it was just because a decision was not made yet. I was called back for a second rounder.

Not true. I received invites to second round interviews as long as 2 weeks after first round on campus. I also received offers after superdays anywhere from 1-1.5 weeks after the interview. Don't read too far into how long it takes for them to get back to you unless it has been over two weeks or so...

Same kind of question except mine was for entry level from a partner referral, was just a conversation with HR about what part of the company I was interested in, I was pretty nervous during the conversation and it showed, any recommendations on what to do? Contact the partner? Contact HR? etc. etc. It's been about two weeks...

Well, I actually got the response today, and unfortunately I didn't get the job. Rats! Another rejection. Wait another week or so, and still nothing then shoot an email.
