How long before hearing back from interviews?
How long should one wait after summer analyst interviews before hearing back when they can say "I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get it, or am one of the last alternates"?
It's been 2 days since one of my interviews, and I have not heard anything from HR. How long should I wait before calling HR and asking for my status?
Is it true that if they want you they generally call you either that day, or the very next day?
We called our summer analysts (the ones we gave offers to) within 24 hours.
At the analyst and associate (post-MBA) level banks generally get back to you almost immediately - within a few days at the longest. when I worked at ML we used to sit in a room and make decisions right after the candidates left.
In my experience, there is usually a longer waiting period after first rounds than after later rounds.
for one of mine, i didn't hear back for about 5 days - including a weekend, so maybe that played a factor?
If they don't call you back within 2 days, I'd say there's no chance
I got a full-time offer on the spot from a BB. The last guy interviewing me told me he had to take a call and then a couple of minutes later my past interviewers walked in and laid out the offer. I couldn't make their superday, and apparently I was the last person to interview...
Ranges from that 24 hours - 7 days
We called ours up the night of.
Got my offers 4-5 days after interviews, but some friends that interviewed along with me got offers sooner (1-2 days)
After 4-5 hours of interviews at a BB superday in the morning, I got an evening call from a VP who basically did a one hour phone interview with me. He then told me pretty much that I would be getting a call the next morning to hear the result. Is this common or was I just a borderline accept?
superday was Friday, received offer on Monday.
I got my summer offer by phone about 30 minutes after I walked out of the office. I think it just varies depending on the company, but if it gets much past a couple of days I'd say you are probably on the waiting list.
Haven't heard back for a month, what do I do? (Originally Posted: 02/27/2015)
Hey guys,
So I had a super day with a pretty big firm about a month ago (end of jan.) and I still haven't heard back yet. They only took about 5 days to get back to me after the initial first round phone interview. I followed up with a couple of people who interviewed me. One ignored my email while the other said the decision process is still ongoing and they should be in touch with me by today but I still haven't heard yet. I feel like I did really well in the interviews and its a place I really want to go. Does anyone have any advice for what I should do? Maybe picking up the phone and calling? Thanks
Who was it that said the process is ongoing (VP, MD, etc.)? In your shoes, I would admit that it's almost surely over and get back to the hunt grind, if you let up the gas on that. I personally write off interviews if I don't hear anything for more than 2 weeks.

I had an interview in person last Monday after two previous phone interviews. What are the reason why this is taking so long? I also filled out a formal application there as well.
If it was a superday, it's taking long b/c you were waitlisted. They usually get back to top candidates the same day or within a few days max, but there are always exceptions.
they may have you on the back burner in the event their first choices do not accept. when I was interning only 12 people would get offers so we started to game the intern class.. one top kid did real well on lsat and was going to law school.. one girl was going TFA, another top kid wanted to be as a BB.. one by one people just fell out and the analyst class was not the best of the intern class but the best of who was available.
It wasn't a super day. It was an interview with a boutique firm though. I have since emailed the HR recruiter twice asking whether my candidacy is being considered but I haven't heard anything yet.
Basically, I just want to know whether I was dinged or not.
Be patient - boutiques often run a little slow - contrary to all intuition, which should state that smaller firm = quicker results. There are a great many people competing for this one spot and if you were interviewed in the beginning or middle of the process, they might want to see a few more before offering a position, dinging you, or inviting you for another interview.
There is nothing wrong with reaching out to HR, but there is also nothing wrong with pursuing other opps - while you wait for this decision you can absolutely look for other opps, since I'm sure you're not the only candidate that they are considering.
Regarding next steps, since it is a boutique, I would probably shoot an email to the banker and thank him/her again, then include a little point about your candidacy - whether they are still evaluating other candidates, etc and when you can expect a decision - whether next round, acceptance or what have you. Alternatively, you can call HR, but if you go back to HR, I would wait until the end of this week since you've already emailed twice and they might just be a bit backed up. Good luck.

So I went to a top BB for an interview on the Asset Management side last Wednesday, and was only supposed to meet with three people. They ended up having me meet with the original three, then an extra associate, then the MD, then two VPs in the group. Thought I had positive feedback, and they said I'd hear within 1-2 days. Now it's Monday and still haven't heard anything...also no responses to thank you notes. Are my chances still good?
Today is Columbus Day, so you probably won't hear anything today. If you still haven't heard anything by tomorrow afternoon, I'd shoot an email Wednesday morning letting them know you're still very interested in the position and were curious about next steps.
HR just reached out to say I am in the running but they have some more people to interview still. I will continue to update this as a reference for others in the future.
Any update? I am in the same situation - I had off-cycle f2f interviews for a BB on Monday morning. Haven't heard anything till date. Ding?

To clarify: How long to MS/BX/etc take to respond AFTER they interview you on-campus or do they just blow everybody off except those invited to superday. The vast majority of banks will tell you after you interview with them on-campus whether you are invited to the superday but I have not yet heard from them and I'm wondering how long it takes.
That's absolutely right. Are you kidding me?
MS is a top BB and extremely selective. They get 1000s of apps each year for a handful of slots. Yes my friend. It is possible to be rejected. Not just possible. A mathematical certainty for the vast majority of applicants.
.
See above. Can someone actually answer the question I was asking rather than just be a snob?
In my experience and talking to my friends, the people invited to super days hear back within 24-48 hours. Any later is usually a rejection.
He's not being a snob. He's stating fact (wdr imho), and when you're on here may I suggest that you be open to suggestions, and not be so sensitive. You have limited bananas in your bowels by the way.
At the MBA level, where super days are only a couple of days after first round, you hear back that night if the news is good. If you get dinged from first round HR will usually call a few days later.
I'd love to bring this post back -- so its confirmed 24-48 hours? I know someone who was rejected/notified within that time period -- I myself however haven't heard from a single firm yet but I got very good feedback so I'm confused..?

I've submitted my resume and work sample to couple boutiques (GMP, veritas, & cormark) last friday, does anyone have any experience in how long does it take to hear back from them? I know that most analysts are heading into the earning season recently, would that slow things a bit too? Thanks!
During my job searches I heard back usually same day if they are recruiting. Also look at OCR, it is basically the best kind of networking and easiest way to land a job.
I was an international student and went to a Canadian semi-target school (not gonna list the name, lots of hatred here). And if I don't land any ER gig in the coming 2 months, I'm gonna get a random part time just to feed and heading back to HK in the summer, seeking for more opportunities there.

"Hello XXXXX,
Thank you very much for interviewing for the Credit Analyst position. I know the managers were very impressed with you and your experience and hoping for a decision on Friday or Monday.
Please advise of any questions and appreciate you and your interest in XXXX."
It's been almost two weeks since I interviewed and I'm guessing I should forget about it.
You should try to email the managers you interviewed with/any contact at the company. You could also call HR and figure out your status and restate interest in the company, especially since it seems you did well.
Not hearing back can mean one of two things, either you just did not get the offer and the firm did not even do the decency to let you know, or they are still interviewing other candidates and don't want to cross you off the list yet. I would maybe shoot them another email and then continue searching for another opportunity. And with that being said continue to relentlessly pursue all job leads until you have a written offer in hand. Best of luck
Yeah I figured I didn't receive an offer when I emailed the recruiter and didn't get a response. I applied on the 11th and interviewed the 19th. I saw that they reposted the job on the 16th. Oh well
I would suggest you call one of your interviewers who you connected well with and ask him about the current status of the interviewing process. this is also another chance to refreshen your candidacy for the position during your 5-10 minute discussion with him to remind him how great you were. I wouldn't lose hope yet, but always smart to keep interviewing.
Got a call from the recruiter today saying I was their #1 candidate but there has been a delay because some of the managers have been out of the state on business and they have one more interview next week.
She also told me that the managers were asking about me today and said that even if they decide they want to also hire the guy they interview next week, they will potentially move one of us into a different department to bring me on board.
That was really good news. How is everything going? Do you end up in that firm?

Interviewed for a SA position w/ Morgan Stanley this previous Wednesday on a super day. What is the typical/normal time period to hear back for an offer? Come Monday should I email the HR employee that was in contact with me to set up the interview?
Any input would be appreciated
-thanks
That happened to me once. I think you may be in the wait-list - i.e. would get offer if someone else declines it.
wHAT QUestions did they ask at the interview? I have one MOnday with MS
If I had to guess, I'd say you'll hear back when they call you.
For me, it was about a week.
Avoid MS. Worst place to be on the street and no signs of coming back up.

definitely call them back and tell them how you need this job because you are in debt up to your eyeballs. they want people who are hungry
Generally, the decision on analyst hires has been made within a few hours of the time you walk out of the office. Unless, of course, HR just isn't on its game, which is entirely plausible.
The reason for this is simple. A week after you interview, nobody will remember a thing about you, so we try to strike while the iron is still hot. Everybody who met you gets in a room, makes fun of you for ten minutes, then depending on whether the most vocal person liked you or didn't, a decision is generally coerced out of the group within 15 minutes, tops.
If you made it, someone will generally call you, sooner rather than later. If you didn't, you may be waiting for the form letter via USPS. There are exceptions to the rule depending on how disorganized the firm is, but that's more or less how it goes.
Well what should I say? I don't want to be a pest after only 3 days and say "Have you guys made a decision on me yet?"
One of the last words the interviewer told me was that she would discuss the results of the interview with the MD.
well ask what the MD thought and tell them to hurry up with their decision.
Calling never helps. Like most silly things an analyst can do, most of them can hurt you, few can help you.
I've never seen a situation where we were on the fence about someone and then said "Geez, what a go-getter, give him an offer" because he called to follow up.
what if they forgot he existed because they have been working on a huge deal? he should probably call to remind them that they interviewed him and he didn't just fall off the face of the earth.
definitely call back it's the professional thing to do.
Unlikely that everybody he met went straight from the interview to fairness committee. Besides, someone in HR would follow up to say, "what did you think of the kid you saw today?". That's what they do.
The only real roadblock is the staffer/recruiter for the group sitting down with the group head to figure out where the number of offers stands compared to the number of open slots allocated for the group. That takes 20 seconds. Believe me, I know.
Most MD's have razor sharp memories and pull the trigger quickly. They will not take your's and another candidate's resume home and ponder more over the decision.
If you are a guy who is on the fence, you'll get a call in three days instead of two....
Do Not Call Back! Genghis is right. What could you possibly say over the phone to improve your chances? There is a difference between being hungry and looking desperate. Hunger comes across in your interview, desperation picks up the phone after...
Call back - do it!
If you have an offer no one will rescind it
If you haven't it is the professional thing to do... just tell them how you enjoyed meeting them all... and reiterate the key sell points you made....
From the ghetto....
the least you can do is to write an email and ask. Really, just call
the least you can do is to write an email and ask. Really, just call
calling is tacky. If they want you they'll call you, if you havent heard after a few days you prob didn't get it. Sorry but that's just the way it goes, you're not gonna change their mind by calling days after the fact, odds are the decision's been made
In the end it was just because a decision was not made yet. I was called back for a second rounder.
typical interview response time (Originally Posted: 01/27/2010)
hey guys what is the typical response time after a 1st round BB OCR interview?
(for SA positions)
that evening.
Not true. I received invites to second round interviews as long as 2 weeks after first round on campus. I also received offers after superdays anywhere from 1-1.5 weeks after the interview. Don't read too far into how long it takes for them to get back to you unless it has been over two weeks or so...
thx
Well post second round: It ranges from the day itself for up to two weeks. More than that you can feel there's some trouble..
same night or next day for a BB

Same kind of question except mine was for entry level from a partner referral, was just a conversation with HR about what part of the company I was interested in, I was pretty nervous during the conversation and it showed, any recommendations on what to do? Contact the partner? Contact HR? etc. etc. It's been about two weeks...
Well, I actually got the response today, and unfortunately I didn't get the job. Rats! Another rejection. Wait another week or so, and still nothing then shoot an email.
Response Time - Interviewed with a couple BB for the ops group (Originally Posted: 03/27/2009)

bump
When I did MO/Ops, interview -> offer was 2 weeks. Had to respond within ~1 week
Offer 2 weeks to 1 month after last interview. I had 3 weeks to respond to an offer though you can often ask for an extension depending on your negotiation skills.
Response Time - Group of traders (Originally Posted: 03/10/2010)
Hi guys,
I had an interview last week where the firm flew me into their offices and I sat on the desk with a group of traders for about 8 hours, being questioned, asking questions etc.
Before I left that evening the guy I was mainly interviewing to work under called me on my cell to say he "would let me know mid week next week either way."
We talked further about trading and how risky the career is and I gave him one final pitch about myself and he followed up by saying, well "I like you." I followed up the next day with a solid email and re iterated my desire to work in his group.
Anyways,
When should I be expecting a call? I know that usually the person who gets the offer (there's only one position) usually gets a call first. Should I be worried having not heard anything? (I realize it's right around "mid week" as I write this)
Additionally, if I haven't heard of anything by end of day today should I assume I haven't got the position? Would it reek of desperation if I followed up at the end of the day today (I do have other positions I am interviewing for, but this is my top choice) or would I impress the trader with my further persistence?
Finally, I received a notice from the asst on the desk today and she said she received had gotten my invoice from the hotel and realized I had paid for the hotel and that is was firm policy that they pay for expenses so she wanted to get me an invoice. (Additionally, she was noticeably more polite in this email than previous emails)
I am hoping to get some insight from some guys currently on a desk.
Thanks
