Is quantum computing a near future reality?
Google is looking to build one now.
Google is preparing to take computing to warp speed.The internet search company announced a new partnership with researchers at the University of California Santa Barbara to develop "quantum computing" technology.
The science behind quantum computing is highly technical and still very theoretical. In simple terms, quantum computers make use of quantum bits, or qubits, to process information, as opposed to the binary system of ones and zeros used by traditional computer processors.
Scientists say qubits can behave like ones or zeros, or both. In theory, this should make quantum computers exponentially faster than digital computers that use a binary system to process information.
China is currently home to the world's fastest computer, the Tianhe-2 supercomputer, which is capable of nearly 55 quadrillion of calculations per second. A quantum computer could make that look like a snail.

Nothing too new in terms of near commercialization efforts, some in industry and universities have been trying to do this for a while, and some are getting close to success.
Yea I know people have been working on it for a while. Just something about Google doing it makes you feel like the will actually be the ones to make it work, then make it affordable.

Google working on it means that actually R&D dollars will go to where it needs to be now, rather than waiting on some VC firm or university to fund it. I think it is important to say it is still mostly theoretical and to my knowledge researchers arent sure that it is completely possible yet with the tech that is available at this point in time. I am sure Ray Kurzweil will have some hands on this.

The next step for Google to take over the world
The main problem with quantum computing is the interference between the iostream and the getche. If the conio would remain stable throughout the jk flip flop the binary tarpit could interlude with the funge and antifunge mainframes.
Unfortunately, so close yet so far.
And that assumes you can even get a power supply that can generate inverse reactive current for the unilateral phase detractors... it's a loooooooooooong way off
