Junior with a dilemma
I am a rising junior who did two years at a decent state school and am transferring to a semi-target (top 25 U) in the fall. I had a perfect GPA as a finance major and will work to maintain that trend.
The problem is, I've had zero experience on the street (IB). At this point, I am out of luck with internships, a.k.a stuck on square one.
- Network my a** off
- Network my a** off
- Land interview(s)
- Nail interview(s)
My biggest problem is networking. My hard numbers (GPA, SAT) make a good case, but my submissions never seem to land me an interview. I have a good grasp of finance and would love for a chance to crack the tech. q's. Also have a good amount of extracurriculars to prove that I don't just sit in a cave all day...
What can I do over the summer/fall to improve my outlook for that crucial junior-to-senior summer internship? What are some successful networking techniques that you guys have used? Anything unorthodox but successful? Am doing a forum search too so any added help would be great.
Thanks
You could explain your story to small boutiques and ask for an unpaid internship. There's an article about unpaid internship, can't give you link because i'm writing this on an iPod.
I hear the WSO Networking guide is pretty useful.
Gantor, how is it that your profile says that you are in the IB industry, when your birthday is 1993?
