Leave of absence

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience/knowledge about taking a leave of absence (unpaid) for a 2nd year analyst. I have some serious family issues and need to return home for at least several months. I'm hoping that my bank will allow me to take an unpaid leave of absence and be able to return to my job, but I'm not sure if they will and our company literature doesn't really cover this. If they don't allow this I'll be forced to resign. I'm a bit nervous about raising the issue with HR (although I know I will have to), so I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience or advice regarding this issue. Thanks.

if its something serious, like you want to spend the last few months with a terminally ill parent or sibling, then they should let you take it off. if they don't then the firm is probably not worth working for. you have to remember that the firms output is its people. if they are that heartless they will lose a lot of talented people.

What the hell are you talking about, the firm's output is it's people??

To the OP, sounds to me like you need to go in and put your dick on the table, i.e. "hey, this is the situation, I'm leaving regardless and rightfully so. You can either take me back when I am able to come back or I take my training, experience and great/good/decent reviews across the Street."

If you can muster enough real emotion, that will probably be the best outcome.

Altho Ideating is normally a massive wankstain, I agree 100% with him this time - wtf are you talking about when you say a firm's output is it's people?

That's such an utter BS and jargonistic statement (did they teach you that when you worked in a HR department?) - THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU and THEY ARE HEARTLESS

deal with it

i meant the people provide the service, so the company should keep them relatively happy. anyway, i think maybe i have a different perspective because i work at a smaller firm where they do care somewhat about the well being of the staff.

They don't give a shit about the analysts. The MDs who bring in money?? Of course they do what they can to keep them happy. The analysts are interchangeable cogs 99.5% of the time.

As far as the question goes, just get some stones and ask. 20 years from now you don't want to look back and be pissed/depressed you never asked your boss to take time off to spend with a dying relative. If the bank won't agree, take the time off and get a headhunter to find you a job in the future, especially if you have good reviews at your last place.

No personal experience taking indefinite leave work for personal reasons. I suppose, given your unfortunate circumstances, your company would accommodate your need to spend time with your mom.

By the way, sorry about your mom. It reminds us all to cherish our parents (we may have many loved ones, but parents are truly special) while they are still around.

nah not a troll post im dead serious. I was on a diet that was strictly beans for two weeks for a protien and fat upload right before summer. I had shits that were the girth of soda cans and constant tearing caused for this build up i believe. What story could i possibly come up with to get off work for a couple days maybe a week.

do you work at SAC?

does your boss.... make you do "things"

is this why it hurts there son?

This sounds completely irrational, but what you have to do is shoot yourself with a BB gun point blank right in the middle of the hemorrhoid. It will likely ooze blood and puss and tartar sauce.

Capture this with a turkey baster and squirt 2 samples into separate medical grade sterile plastic zip-lock bags. Send one bag to Quest Diagnostics Lab so they can test to make sure you don't have semen polyps in your rectum.

Save the other bag... as you may need proof for your week long abscess... I mean absence at work.

Just use one of those donut cushions and come up with an elaborate story of how you hurt your tailbone. Like tell everyone on a friday that you are going rockclimbing, than on monday say you fell (some self-inflicted wounds across the face will help here). everyone will make some jokes about buttseks etc, but you will be good to go.

Wall Street leaders now understand that they made a mistake, one born of their innocent and trusting nature. They trusted ordinary Americans to behave more responsibly than they themselves ever would, and these ordinary Americans betrayed their trust.
